Todd Boehly led the partnership that bought Chelsea for £4.25 billion. After months of talks, the UK government authorized the £4.25 billion acquisition of Chelsea Football Club by the Todd Boehly group. The completion of the purchase was officially announced.
It was announced in March that the club was up for sale, putting an end to Roman Abramovich's 19-year ownership. Russian President Vladimir Putin's close ties to Abramovich led to his being placed on a list of individuals subject to sanctions.
Since then, the London Club has been operating under a special permit. Abramovich will not be able to profit from any future Chelsea deals as a result of this agreement.
A government official said in a statement that "the whole revenues of the transaction will not benefit Roman Abramovich." Proceeds from the sale go to aid Ukrainian civilians who have been displaced due to the conflict.
According to Boehly and his partner investors, they are "honored" to be the new owners of the team. They are "100 percent invested" in every match and every minute. Boehly will retain ultimate control of the club despite Clearlake Capital's acquisition of a majority share.
Who is Todd Boehly?
Following his graduation from college with a degree in finance in 1996, Boehly started his professional life working for CS First Boston in New York. After that, he worked at JH Witney & Co. and Guggenheim Partners, where he worked until 2001. There have been many years of collaboration with Mark Walter and the Chelsea consortium, which includes both men.
As a philanthropist, Boehly has invested in several charitable organizations. He owns 20% of the Los Angeles Dodgers, a professional baseball team in the United States. He also has a share in the Los Angeles Sparks, a women's basketball club.
He also has a 27% stake in the Los Angeles Lakers, seven-time champions of Major League Baseball's World Series. Outside the world of sport, Eldridge Industries, a private holding corporation, was established by Boehly in 2015. The corporation invests in a wide range of industries, including insurance, asset management, and real estate.
In 2014, Boehly was an active participant in establishing the Boehly Center for Excellence in Finance. This happened in the Raymond A. Mason School of Business at William & Mary.
Additionally, the business tycoon is well-connected in the fields of both the media and the entertainment industry. Among his holdings are A24 Entertainment, the production company behind such blockbusters as Uncut Gems, Midsommar, and Moonlight. He also invested in Penske Media, the corporation that owns magazines like Rolling Stone and Variety.
As of right now, he serves as the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's (HFPA) interim CEO. Eldridge apparently owns Dick Clark Productions, the company in charge of putting on the awards show.
