It’s often thought that a manager will need at least one transfer market and a full pre-season to make their mark on the team.
In fairness, such a view is understandable. Joining mid-season can be challenging, as you are inheriting a bunch of players you don’t know, whilst the constant run of games means you don’t have the time to get your ideas across on the training pitch. That’s the theory, anyway. However, Thomas Tuchel has done his best to dismiss it by enjoying a blistering start to life as Chelsea coach and could possibly do the same at powerplay.com
Replacing the legendary Frank Lampard was always going to be a huge task for anyone at Stamford Bridge, and fans were angered when he was sacked. Yet, Tuchel’s electric start has already vindicated the hierarchy’s decision.
Of course, it’s far too soon to brand the ex-Dortmund chief a success. Plus, a look at the football fixtures coming up shows that big challenges lie in wait for the Blues as they try to finish in the top four and thrive in Europe. There’s still a lot of work to do. But, regardless of what happens this season, the signs are that Tuchel can bring success back to Chelsea moving forward.
The main way he has impressed is with his straight-talking, clear vision that he has for the players on how he wants them to play. Tactically, everyone knows their roles, and if they don’t do what he wants, the 47-year-old has a ruthless streak – just ask Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Predominantly playing with a back three, his coaching has brought significant improvements from many players, including Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Timo Werner.
This formation has given the side a solid base, whilst the patterns of play in the final third are exciting. There is a lot of variation to the Londoners when they move forward, with intricate play combined with a willingness to get balls into the box. It makes them a dangerous, unpredictable prospect to opponents.
Another pleasing aspect of the new boss is his willingness to rotate. That has enabled him to keep his huge, talented squad happy. Everyone knows they will have a role to play, and everyone is buying into what Tuchel is saying. To make such an impact proves that he commands respect.
Obviously, the aims for a club like Chelsea are clear; you have to strive to be the best. That means taking on the mighty Manchester City machine domestically and competing with the biggest clubs on the planet in the Champions League.
That’s achievable though, as Roman Abramovich has shown time and again that he is prepared to put significant funding into Chelsea to make them a force, even in recent years after all he has achieved.
Ultimately though, Tuchel’s early work suggests that wholesale changes aren’t needed, instead just a few tweaks. And, the prospect of his new-look Chelsea lining up as they get to grips with his methods over the summer is one that should scare their rivals.

2 - Chelsea have conceded only two goals in 10 games in all competitions under Thomas Tuchel, the same return as they had after 10 games under José Mourinho - both managers' 10th game was a 1-0 win against Liverpool. Mastered. pic.twitter.com/Pv2khayfvk
