Chelsea produced a stellar performance over the weekend to beat London rivals Tottenham 2-1 at Stamford Bridge. This saw them dominant for much of the contest, before a late fight back from the visitors. Giroud netted his first Premier league goal of the season when returning to the starting line-up. The victory also meant that Frank Lampard did the double over his former manager Jose Mourinho, as he continues his impressive start as the manager of Chelsea football club.
This means that Chelsea now head into their big Champions league clash with confidence high and they will be hopeful they can get a result out of the opening leg at Stamford Bridge. There are many offers for new customers ahead of the match, that makes Bayern Munich the favourites to take the victory and a lead back to the Allianz Arena. The away leg for Chelsea will be taking place on the 18th of March, as they look to secure a passage to the final eight.
Chelsea secured their progressing to the knockout stages of the competition by finishing as runners-up in Group H. This saw them taking on Lille, Ajax and Valencia. The latter topped the group due to their head to head record with Chelsea, as last season’s semi-finalists Ajax were surprisingly knocked out of the competition. This was a surprise, as the Dutch side had started as the favourites in this competitive group.
Bayern Munich on the other hand were hugely impressive in qualification, which saw them finish as the only side to take maximum points from their six matches played. They were originally drawn in Group B against Red Star, Olympiacos and last season’s defeated finalist Tottenham. Bayern finished winning all six fixtures, whilst also scoring 24 goals and conceding just five. This included there memorable 7-2 away thrashing of Tottenham, as former Gunner Serge Gnabry netted four second half goals.
Bayern were then 3-1 victors in the return leg and are now amongst the favourites in the outright markets for this seasons competition. The 29 time German champions now head into the fixture with Chelsea as the strong favourites to progress through, as they look to add to their five Champions league titles and first since 2013.
Chelsea on the other hand will be looking to add more European success, following their Europa league victory last season. They will be hopeful they can cause the upset against Bayern, as they look to win the competition for just the second time. The first coming back in 2012, when they defeated Bayern 4-3 on penalties in the final.
