It's been the first international break in Premier League history and a chance to recharge our batteries for the final thirteen games of the season. What has transpired instead has been a wave of negativity on social media that is bordering on insanity in my view.
From Kepa to Tammy Abraham, there has been a wave of criticism of personal performances, opinions that these players should be sold and possible replacements. What doesn’t help is in-depth videos being released on almost each and every topic that appears in the media. When these videos come out they trigger debate which for the most-part is healthy, that is until these people with their negative views come in with their biased views looking for people to join them on the negative bandwagon. We can only hope that people will eventually see common sense and filter these idiots out of their day-to-day lives.
So why all the negativity? I feel like I am repeating myself on a weekly basis here, Chelsea are performing above and beyond our expectations at the beginning of the season DESPITE the points dropped and ridiculous games lost. We should move on from those disappointments and now focus on the remaining games to get behind the players who obviously are only too aware of where things need to improve. The thing is, Frank Lampard, Jody Morris and their coaching team will continue to work hard to see improvements all over the pitch with what we can all agree that as a squad is a work in progress.
What has become counter productive over the past few weeks is the daily criticism of the players which they personally have to be aware of. Social Media gives people the opportunity to tag people directly into their posts. Despite the option to block each individual, this can only happen AFTER the event with the initial point being made.
We have had to read opinions of Kepa, of Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta, Marcos Alonso, Jorginho, Ross Barkley, Pedro, Olivier Giroud, Willian and N’Golo Kante recently, all of which were being talked of negatively. If you then add the apparent failure (not my words) of the Chelsea Board and in particular Marina Granovskaia, there is just constant negativity about Chelsea which is really becoming tiresome.
Who actually knows exactly what is happening? Who knows the real reason why we never signed anyone this past month? Who has 100% knowledge of what is happening with individual players and their current form or future? No-one from the outside, the negativity is fed from the papers, Videos, YouTubers and into social media and just escalates from there.
Isn’t it about time that we stop and focus on ONLY the positives from our season so far and look forward to what our exciting squad can achieve at the end of the season and beyond? That’s what was being talked about at the start of the season so why has it changed? The players are the same and if anything, we have better options now that we did at the start of the season with Toni Rudiger back, Reece James who has been the standout performer so far and Ruben Loftus-Cheek on his way back into the fold.
Sit back, take stock of the situation as it is, look forward to the big games we have coming up starting with Manchester United next Monday and get behind everyone at the club.
It could be worse, we could be Arsenal.
