Chelsea are set to appoint two Chelsea Legends this summer – Frank Lampard as Manager with Petr Cech as Sporting Director with both working in tandem to take our club forward. Will both be given the time they need to do exactly that?
In my view both would be a massive step forward for our football club. It’s clear that since Michael Emenalo left Chelsea with Marina Granovskaia in charge, it’s obvious that the demands of the position in addition to her main role are too great and we need someone there that knows football, understands the game with immense experience. Petr Cech is that man and it’s also worth noting, someone who has a strong relationship with Roman Abramovich.
Petr Cech spent eleven years at Chelsea and won it all. Premier League titles, FA Cup’s, League Cups, the Europa League and the Champions League where he performed heroics in goal to deliver the ultimate prize in club football. He formed an important part of the spine of our football team that served us well for a decade and he knows exactly what it takes to be a winner.
Frank Lampard is in my view, the greatest player of all-time at our club and achieved the same success with Petr Cech during that same period. Someone who knew it took hard work and dedication to be the best, he encouraged others to do the same around him again formed another important part of the spine of that team.
Now as a manager at Derby it’s clear that he has taken that hunger, determination and desire to his players to lead them to the Championship Play-off Final in his first season as a manager - make sure you check out canada sports bet for the latest final odds. Anything can happen in the one-off game at Wembley but to seal a victory would crown an amazing first season in charge.
There are two questions we must ask of Frank Lampard by this time next week. If Derby win would he want to lead them into the Premier League next season since they have given him the opportunity to step into management? Would Frank Lampard want to take the Chelsea job at this early stage? I believe he would but again there is that element for me of things not working out and potentially spoiling the legacy he has at our football club. That’s the biggest issue that we face with the potential appointments. Will both be given the time they would need to establish themselves in their new roles? Would both be put under immense pressure if the club (god forbid) under performs next season? Or do you believe that the appointment of both would galvanize the club and its players in a way that we haven’t seen here for a sustained period of time since Jose Mourinho between 2004-2006?
One thing is for sure, both are loved and adored by the fans and the two appointments would heal the obvious rift between the club and its supporters at the current time.
