Waking up this morning having witnessed Chelsea finally deliver a performance that we all know we are more than capable of to beat Arsenal is immensely satisfying. Make no mistake, Chelsea dismantled Arsenal on the night and but for Petr Cech, it could have been a whole lot worse.
The Chelsea legend made FOUR outstanding saves to deny Chelsea in addition to the four goals he could do little about. It wasn’t nice to see the big man in tears with it being his last career game and I felt for him last night. Let’s welcome him back when he makes his expected return home as Sporting Director.
Maurizio Sarri deserves immense respect after this game because he has finally achieved a trophy in his 30-year managerial career. Chelsea second half performance gave a demonstration of the football he has been trying to implement at Stamford Bridge. It’s just a shame that we finally deliver when it looks like three or four important figures are going to leave the club with Sarri being one of them along with Eden Hazard. How do we think that Chelsea will cope without him? Check out the offer from matchbook with the latest odds on Chelsea next season.
The manager was asked at the beginning of the season to finish inside the top four and still win a trophy. He has delivered exactly that and credit to him. Speaking after the game he said that he feels that deserves to stay having achieved the clubs targets in a difficult season but what do you think?
The first half was a struggle let’s be clear on that as Arsenal had started the better of the two sides. Arsenal in the first half dominated Chelsea and had some half chances but never capitalised on their possession. Chelsea and then grew into the game and carved Arsenal open just before halftime as Olivier Giroud forced the first save from Petr Cech. It was a sign of things to come.
In that first half the Chelsea players worked hard without the ball. To a man the Chelsea players make tackles, made important blocks with Cesar Azpilicueta leading by example. Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho were immense in midfield covering for the injured N’Golo Kante who started the game. At the back of defenders stood firm to deny Arsenal.
As I have posted in the last article stating what happened during the game, no one could have expected how well Chelsea would play and how bad are opponents were. Chelsea ripped them apart and could have scored more than four goals. Our back four and midfield complemented our attacking players and enabled them to express themselves going forward. Make no mistake Chelsea were outstanding and arsenal had no answer.
There is plenty to be said this summer over the futures of our manager and some of the players. If you add the turmoil that preceded this game giving Chelsea little chance, then you must sit back and take stock of just how well we played.
A man of the match performance from Eden Hazard on the night has given the Chelsea fans another night to remember in his final appearance for the club. A tribute will be posted to hazard in due course.
It’s been 15 years since Roman Abramovich took over our club and Chelsea have won another trophy. In all that time there has only ever been four seasons where we have won nothing it’s an outstanding record.
Chelsea have become the first side in Europa League history to finish the season unbeaten which again is testament to the players and the manager finishing the season on an unbelievable high. Who would have thought it would have impossible two months ago.
