After vital wins this past week over Tottenham and Fulham, Chelsea have moved within two points off of the top four with a game in hand to play. After a tough period, we now have our destiny in our own hands.
Well I say that based on Chelsea performing tactically and to a man as they did against Man City and Tottenham. Fulham wasn't just a wobble, it was a reminder that you can never take anything for granted in the Premier League. As I said in my post-match vlog and my Vlog post yesterday, if it wasn't for Kepa we would have dropped a point or possibly all three!
The next six games for Chelsea and for Maurizio Sarri in particular are more than favourable. Two in the Europa League against Dynamo Kiev with four Premier League games against Wolves at home this weekend, followed by Everton away, Cardiff away after the international break followed by West Ham at home before we then face Liverpool on 14th April.
If we can take three wins and a draw from these games and a minimum of ten points, we put ourselves right back into the top four still with a game in hand against Brighton which gives us a real advantage over everyone else with just five points between Tottenham in third position and Chelsea in sixth.
At this stage of the season, the home-stretch, everyone is fighting for position whether it's to win the title, for the top four, top six, top half, mid-table or two avoid relegation. The difference in financial reward for moving up a single position in the table is huge that there is no longer games described as being dead-rubbers.
Chelsea just need to take each game as it comes with the right approach and mentality with Fulham being a constant reminder to all that the outcome of a match can change from one half to another and you must be ready to fight to earn every single point in this league.
Toni Ruidger has re-iterated just that. He said:
“It is a good feeling to know that we have things in our own hands. It depends only us. We started with the win against Tottenham and now we have beaten Fulham. We want to continue like this.
“It’s not important for me to speak about other clubs. We need to look at own house and get our own things solved.” - Source: The Telegraph.
He makes a great point and is becoming someone who people are looking to these days for some inspiration which is a credit to him. It's good to read that last statement because it has been important to sort out "our own house" of late.
It appears that we may have just done that but our season and speculation of Maurizio Sarri's job is far from over.
