The two Argentinian strikers are worlds apart from most in Europe. Both have proven records, both are outstanding talents and as we have seen over the years, both can score in any game at any moment in time. Sergio Aguero is odds-on to score anytime in this one but its worth noting that Gonzalo Higuain is currently being offered at a massive 15/2 to score first!
We all are only to aware of the quality of Sergio Aguero. In my view he is right up there with the greats of the Premier League having watched him over the years. He has natural, god-given talent for scoring goals demonstrated by the different types of goals he scores. In and around that penalty box, literally on every occasion, he is a massive threat that has put Chelsea to the sword numerous times.
Chelsea have defensive issues without question, that's just me being honest and there is no point trying to paper over the cracks which is what we seem to have done for the Huddersfield game after being well beaten away to Bournemouth. Tottenham exposed our frailties in one of the big games against our rivals and Arsenal did the same a couple of weeks ago. I just hope that we can find it within ourselves to dig-in, to remain compact, to not make rash decisions or do anything stupid to allow Aguero the opportunities to score.
As for Chelsea going forward? I have previously written an article earlier this morning suggesting that Maurizio Sarri may opt to revert back to the false-nine formation that worked so well in the first game. We won the game 2-0 and with Manchester City creating little that day. In fact, the up-to-date statistics point to the fact that we are the last Premier League team to stop Manchester City from scoring. How we could do with that happening again on Sunday!
The signing of Gonzalo Higuain surely has to indicate a switch in tactics to face Pep Guardiola's side. Having made a slow start (with hardly any real opportunities) in his first two games, the Argentinian striker showed his class with two really well taken goals against Huddersfield last weekend as Chelsea won the game 5-0. It's also worth noting that Eden Hazard scored twice (including a penalty) with one of his goals one to savour from attacking the opposition from wide areas and not through the middle.
Gonzalo Higuain has proven himself time and time again in Europe that when he gets an opportunity he will hit the target. Watching compilation videos of his goals in recent seasons gave a real indication of his natural ability to know exactly where the goal is without looking first. His movement off the ball is excellent and if given the service in and around the box, he can be lethal. I just hope he gets those opportunities on Sunday because if he gets one early, it will cause Manchester City problems.
We talk about Chelsea's defensive issues but in saying that, having watched Arsenal create some good moments last weekend, there is real encouragement for us in this one. Pep Guardiola's side are susceptible to set-pieces and can be attacked in wide areas as their full-backs are often left exposed with both wide attacking midfielders pushed high up the pitch and caught out of position.
It could play out to be a tight, tense game with both sides wary of dropping points, or it could turn out to be an open, entertaining game with plenty of goal-scoring opportunities. Between Sergio Aguero and Gonzalo Higuain it will be interesting to see who gets the most and takes them!
