According to The Sun, Chelsea are preparing to make a £70m bid today for Isco from Real Madrid and believe that they can get the deal over the line ahead of the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City.
The report states that Chelsea are prepared to offer the Real Madrid play-maker £250,000 per week on a four-year contract as Maurizio Sarri wants him to link up with Eden Hazard. I just wonder if Eden Hazard is involved with this deal AND the loan signing of Mateo Kovacic?
I have always felt that the loan move for Kovavic seemed all too smooth for my liking. Chelsea made and approach and they accepted. Now, if we move for Isco - who it has to be said has fallen out with his current manager and the fans at Real - and the deal gets completed in the same way, then I wonder if Real Madrid's interest in Hazard has anything to do with both? Would they have first option on him in the summer? Is there a caveat in place that he signs this summer? Would Chelsea look to sign BOTH players on permanent deals with Hazard going the other way in a potential swap deal? It's just all too smooth for my liking.
Back to Isco and what a fantastic talent he is. He can play anywhere in the advanced midfield positions whether it's box-to-box, one of the attacking three in behind the main striker and also as another that could feature rotating positions as part of our recent false-nine approach under Sarri. Questions remain (as posted yesterday here) if this is now the way forward for Chelsea this season.
There would be a negative aspect of his signing and we have to admit that based on where Maurizio Sarri intends to play him. If he comes in as direct competition for one of the wide areas in our attacking three then Callum Hudson-Odoi would fall down the pecking order (unless either Willian or Pedro are sold in the summer). If he steps into our midfield then Ruben Loftus-Cheek could find his position under threat which isn't good based on all of our opinions of the immense talent that he has which should be in a Chelsea shirt for the next four to five years. If anything, RLC could move out on loan for the remainder of the season next month with Bournemouth and West Ham looking at a potential deal.
The biggest problem for any manager in the game is to find the right balance. Just look at the mess Jose Mourinho has made at Old Trafford for example. You can sign players for huge transfer fees and pay them ridiculous money to sign but, if they do not fit into the team, to become part of a balanced side then they would be classed as a mistake.
What I am trying to say here is could the potential/reported move for Isco for £70m be a mistake by Chelsea? Do we not have the talent already here? What do you think?
