Maurizio Sarri takes a Chelsea eleven to Anfield just three days before we clash again this time at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League. Just how many changes do we think he will make tomorrow night?
If the Europa League game last week was any indication then it could be five players but for me, bearing in mind the Premier League has to be our priority above anything else this season, I would rotate at least nine or ten players. Some people may disagree with me and that's not a problem but it's important to note that this competition (no disrespect) would be the least of our priorities behind the Premier League, Europa League and FA Cup.
There are reports that Jurgen Klopp will be looking to do the same to his Liverpool side with one eye also on the weekends game at the Bridge so it will be interesting to see how both managers approach their team selections. Then again, this is Liverpool vs Chelsea and one of the biggest games in both our seasons so they could be reluctant to make wholesale changes to try to maintain as strong team as possible.
Willy Caballero to come in for Kepa, Davide Zappacosta in for Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen for David Luiz, Gary Cahill in for Toni Rudiger and Emerson in for Marcos Alonso. A total rotation of our back five including the goalkeeper.
In midfield Ross Barkley to come in for Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho to maintain his place in the side with Cesc Fabregas in for N'Golo Kante. Two changes out of three that started against Cardiff.
Up front, Alvaro Morata to start in place of Olivier Giroud as he needs a goal, Callum Hudson-Odoi to replace Eden Hazard and Pedro (if fit) to replace Willian on the right hand side.
That's the changes that I would make giving much needed rest to the likes of Kante, Hazard, Giroud etc.
Now, I wrote an article yesterday stating my real, genuine concerns for these two games against Liverpool. I had said that Chelsea would get battered in these two games coming up because I have real defensive concerns at the minute. Based on heavy rotation from Klopp and Sarri, it may not be the case tomorrow night but the fact remains true for Saturday.
Let's hope that whoever starts the game puts in a level of performance that will make the manager re-think his philosophy of selecting the same team week in, week out and that we can deliver the right result.
What do you think of tomorrow's game? How many changes would you make ahead of Saturday?
Come on Chelsea! UTC
