According to various reports in the last 24-hours, as part of the deal for Real Madrid to sign Thibaut Courtois, Chelsea will sign Matteo Kovacic on loan for the season and for me he could be one of the signings of the summer.
We all understand that Maurizio Sarri likes a certain type of player in midfield. His primary addition was Jorginho and we can all see why already. His next move in midfield is going to be Kovacic and he could become as instrumental for us as Jorginho in our engine room which is key to "Sarri-ball".
I have already posted this morning that I see no future at Chelsea for Tiemoue Bakayoko and expect him to leave. Ruben Loftus-Cheek will more than likely spend another season on loan with Crystal Palace to continue his impressive development. N'Golo Kante is N'Golo Kante and there will always be a place in the side for him. Ross Barkley has already impressed this pre-season and it seems as made an impact on the new man in charge. Danny Drinkwater's future is up in the air with West Ham eyeing up a late move, leaving Cesc Fabregas as another would could find himself surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge this season.
A midfield trio of Jorginho, Kante and Kovacic would be immense and is something I am already looking forward to with the Croatian joining on loan as the final piece in Sarri's puzzle.
The 24-year-old signed for Real Madrid for £22.5m three seasons ago and has recently expressed a desire to play more first-team football which is understandable. Real want to keep hold of him and are refusing to sell but have accepted the fact that he should be playing more. The decision to offer him to Chelsea to clinch a deal for Courtois could be key to any form of success we have this year.
The Croatian is two-footed, quick with and without the ball at his feet and has excellent ability. He can play in a deep lying position in midfield but also pushed further forward. He has an excellent range of passing whether long or short but what impresses me is the confidence he has in his own ability which is very similar to Jorginho. When placed under pressure there is little panic as you will see in the video below.
There is obvious coverage in the media/press of Kovacic and his move to Chelsea but naturally, it's being played down because of the controversy regarding Thibaut Courtois and his stance at Chelsea. I'm happy with that if I am honest because believe me, this guy can play and will prove to be one of the signings of the summer.
What do you think of Matteo Kovacic?
