According to the Daily Star (Yes, I know), Roman Abramovich has identified Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio as his next major signing and is prepared to offer N'Golo Kante as part of a potential deal.
First and foremost I believe this report is utter bollocks and complete fabrication from the Tabloid in order to try and gain publicity. However, as a Blogger and someone who likes to give my opinion on articles and the general Chelsea opinion, it's important to look at both sides of the story. We all agree it's rubbish but we have to look at the story as if there could be some real substance to it.
So what if the story is true and there IS substance to this ridiculous report? You have to argue that you would not be surprised based on the impact the Frenchman has made since he arrived in England. Since he came to these shores, Kante has made the most interceptions and tackles out of anyone in the Premier League.
This surely has caught the attention of the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid so we have to expect at some stage in the future that both will come calling. It's whether or not the lure of the two biggest clubs in the world will be too much for the Frenchman and he is unable to resist rather than stay in London.
I am of the view that no matter what team N'Golo Kante plays for, he will instantly become their most important player, their talisman in the middle of midfield and someone that you build the rest of your team around, that's even for the likes of Barca and Real.
Last season Kante came to Chelsea and gave up the option of playing Champions League football with Leicester after winning the Premier League. He has been rewarded with his participation this time around with the Blues despite it being a disappointing campaign. Now, with Europa League football on the horizon next season it will be interesting to see if he decides to stay here in London (despite his recent comments talking of how he loves it here) and continue his career with the Blues.
It's clear that in this day and age, with all the money there is now in our game that some players out there become almost priceless to a club and for me N'Golo Kante is one of those important players. If Chelsea are to rebuild this summer and prepare to challenge our top four rivals next season we MUST keep our best players.
Just think about this for a second. Chelsea have had a disastrous season this time around but find ourselves in 5th position. Just imagine where we would be without N'Golo Kante!
