It's the final day of the Premier League season 2017/18 and Antonio Conte takes his Chelsea team up to Newcastle knowing that they must win the game and then hope the result goes our way at Liverpool to sneak into the top four.
This afternoon is literally all or nothing for me but I am concerned with talk of rotation of his players from the Chelsea head-coach ahead of the game. Having beaten Liverpool a week ago, we had hoped to increase the pressure on Jurgen Klopp's side ahead of today with three points against Huddersfield.
But, with six changes to the side that had beaten Liverpool and a change to the tactical formation using three midfielders that had seen us win our last four games, Chelsea came unstuck against a dogged and determined Huddersfield side and dropped two points. The contrast of emotions after the game from both sets of supporters said it all as the Chelsea fans simply could not believe that we had not won the game (for whatever reason), compared to the away supporters who had just ensured their Premier League survival against all odds.
So to this afternoon and being honest, your guess is as good as mine when it comes to naming our starting eleven and formation. We know that Thibaut Courtois is fit again and should return in goal ahead of next weeks FA Cup Final.
I would expect Gary Cahill to come back into the side this afternoon having missed out in midweek along with the likes of Victor Moses, Eden Hazard, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Olivier Giroud.
I would have liked to have seen Danny Drinkwater and Ross Barkley both given a game today playing either side of N'Golo Kante but as we have seen this season, they are club signings not Conte signings so that's a pure pipe dream really.
Either way we must get out there and do a professional job but most importantly of all take our chances. We all know that Liverpool won't lose today against Brighton and whatever happens at Newcastle won't really matter as far as the Premier League goes but it's massive for next weeks final at Wembley because these players need to force their way into the managers plans to take on Manchester United.
I just hope that we can deliver a performance and the right result this afternoon rather than focus on next week instead.
