Chelsea came back from two goals down to win for the first time in fifteen years on Saturday lunchtime against Southampton with Olivier Giroud the obvious hero. For me, the front three that started the game turned out to be our biggest problem.
Have a watch of today's Video below on my You Tube Channel and I will explain my theory in much more detail:
As you can see, I was more than annoyed by what was happening in the first half and for fifteen minutes of the second half. Eden Hazard, Alvaro Morata and Willian were all playing within ten yards of each other, too narrow and looking for these ridiculous flicks and tricks. By doing so, we made it easy for Southampton to defend and to hit us on the counter-attack.
It was only when Olivier Giroud came on that it forced us to change our formation to 4-2-3-1, to play two men wide (Pedro and Willian) with Hazard in behind Giroud and it literally changed the game with three Chelsea goals in eight minutes and two for the big Frenchman.
It was just a shame that we then changed back to how we were playing and gave Southampton the opportunity to come forward against us again as we were living dangerously at the end with Thibaut Courtois forced into a couple of saves to keep the game at 2-3.
