The doom and gloom in the media continues this afternoon with the Sky Sports Soccer Saturday pundits in agreement that it's looking like Chelsea will miss out finishing inside the top four this season.
Our midweek defeat to Bournemouth has really escalated into ridiculous comments being made by all sorts of influential people in the game that we watch week in, week out such as Gary Neville in my previous post featured on here.
The Soccer Saturday pundits Charlie Nicholas, Paul Merson, Matt Le Tissier and Phil Thompson are ALL of the opinion that after this weeks results that Chelsea are looking vulnerable and will miss out on the top four. They said:
Charlie Nicholas:
“I said before that I thought it would be Chelsea who also missed out and that view is only strengthened after their Bournemouth defeat and a big win for Spurs. Giroud must have been sat watching Chelsea thinking this is worse than Arsenal.
Antonio Conte's comments after the game were scary and Roman Abramovich doesn't take kindly to that sort of chat, so the way things are going they and Arsenal are nailed on to miss out”
Paul Merson:
“Chelsea are the ones in danger of slipping out of the top four. There seems to be a lot going on off the field at Stamford Bridge at the moment and that doesn't help things. After the result on Wednesday, it's all about the top four for Chelsea. They've got to get into the top four but if they don't pick up quickly they could drop out of the running quite quickly.”
Matt Le Tissier:
"Chelsea's performance against Bournemouth makes me even more convinced that they will miss out.
There's clearly tension between Antonio Conte and the board and that attitude clearly doesn't help the players. I'd be very surprised if he was still there come next season."
Phil Thompson:
"Every side below Manchester City have a slip up in them but you'd have to say right now Chelsea are looking particularly vulnerable.
I think this unease with Chelsea has been coming for a while and it is the whole package; the manager, the players, the size or the squad. There has been problem brewing and even with the signings coming in I don't think it has been rectified."
Is it me or has everyone seemingly forgotten the fact that Chelsea had been on an unbeaten run in the Premier League until the Bournemouth defeat? It’s one defeat for god sake and not the end of the world!
It will come down to who has the best squad of players to get through the busy run of games we all have between now and the end of the season with the Champions League around the corner.
Do we have a stronger squad of players to step into the first team to cover injuries and suspensions than the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham? Yes I believe we have now. You take any of the key players out of those teams and look for replacements you will realise that there are only a few positions that each one of them has the necessary cover. Chelsea are different and have focused their efforts on building their squad to supplement the first team.
I encourage Chelsea fans everywhere to ignore all this crap being spoken about our club and head-coach at the moment but it really is coming from all angles. Antonio Conte will continue to work hard with his players to put things right starting with Watford on Monday night.
Mark my words, Chelsea will finish inside the top four this season and which has been our aim all season, despite what many people in the media/press think.
