Chelsea Football Club have insisted that it’s “business as usual” at Stamford Bridge and the Cobham training ground when the players return from their three-day break. Antonio Conte will remain in charge which in my view is the correct decision.
I must be honest, I spent the day yesterday scouring through online websites and social media expecting an “official club statement” to be made and thankfully it never came. The media and press almost expected it as Antonio Conte’s post-match interview after our defeat at Watford was continuously looped repeatedly in regular news bulletins and the speculation as to who was take over this week intensified with names such as Luis Enrique and Eddie Howe being linked with Chelsea. We sit here 24-hours later, and the club have stood firm which is a credit to them for the time being.
The decision to stick with Antonio Conte is the right decision in my view because I believe that he can turn our fortunes around. He will still walk through that door on Friday morning and give the 120% that he has stated he gives every single day and has refused point blank to resign. He has total belief in his methods and why should he doubt himself having won the league title in his last four seasons as a club manager?
In my view the players are as much to blame here and as Gary Cahill was featured as saying after the game, they “must look in the mirror” at themselves during these three days of rest before they go back to Cobham to sort things out. I said it in my match-report/rant yesterday, some of these players should be fined or at least threatened with a breach of their playing contracts because quite frankly, some of them simply have not turned up for work so to speak.
Sacking Conte now would have been the wrong decision with a massive period of games coming up and we need some form of stability. Let’s not forget that the Italian was faced with adversity last season and had enough about him to make a tactical change to get the best out of the players he had here to work with. I would not put it passed him to do the same again now and take these three days to revise his tactical plan moving forward that will hopefully spark a Chelsea revival.
I’ve stated on here weeks ago that to get rid of Antonio Conte would be the biggest mistake that Roman Abramovich has ever made. Despite our poor form in the last ten games, I still stand by that claim. For now, it seems that Roman Abramovich stands by the Italian and that for me is the correct decision.
What do you think?
