In a dramatic turn of events Chelsea are being linked with a late move to hijack a potential move by Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United. However, the sums being quoted to get a deal done are extortionate to say the least.
Late last night it was revealed that Manchester City have pulled out of the race to sign Alexis Sanchez as they decided not to compete with other offers on the table from Premier League CLUBS - Manchester United as we know but the other is thought to be from Chelsea.
An outstanding player with little doubt but we really have to question any form of a deal based on these figures stated below:
Transfer fee: £35m
Agent's fee: £5m
Sanchez Wages: £350,000.
Chelsea would have to ensure that Eden Hazard would also be paid the same as Sanchez if he came to Stamford Bridge unless the club are looking to offload him to Real Madrid this summer in the protracted move that many people believe will happen.
So what of Alexis Sanchez and what he would offer Chelsea at the present time? First and foremost the alternative to Alvaro Morata and would enable us to play with a false nine, with Hazard up front or even Sanchez himself.
The player is a phenomenal talent with a proven record in the Premier League with this, you would have to imagine, being his last big contract. At the age of 29, would he be worth the investment that Chelsea would need to make to sign him? Would he rock the boat here like he has at Arsenal (apparently) or could we find a place for him in our starting eleven to give him what he wants - a chance of winning the Premier League?
The additional bonus is that he is not cup-tied in the Champions League and would be immediately available to take on his old club Barcelona along with Cesc Fabregas and Pedro.
Being honest, if Manchester United want to pay him that ridiculous sum of money and all the other bits and pieces to sign him then it's looking like he would move up North. To me they are the favourites unless Manchester City have a change of heart and come back in for him, giving him the chance to link up once again with Pep Guardiola.
As we know, when it comes to Roman Abramovich, I would not rule out anything and if Chelsea have entered the race to sign Alexis Sanchez, a deal could still be done. Could the signing of Alexis Sanchez be made by Chelsea to finally appease the manager and give him someone that he has asked for? Could it change the course of the future for Antonio Conte at Chelsea and convince him to stay (if you believe the press in saying that is looking to leave)?
We wait to see what happens. Would you pay the extortionate sums that are being quoted for Alexis Sanchez?
