After weeks of speculation, Antonio Conte finally has his man and
most importantly of all finds much needed cover for Marcos Alonso at left
wing-back with one other leaving the club on loan.
After weeks of intense
speculation, Roma left wing-back Emerson Palmieri is due to arrive in London
today to complete his medical ahead of a move for a fee of around £17.5m with
additional add-ons reported at £5m which these days sounds like a bargain.
It's been obvious from last
season that we needed cover for the outstanding Marcos Alonso and the Brazilian
born Italian will give us that option. The bonus is that he is not cup-tied for
the Champions League and is free to play for Chelsea as he had not featured
this season for the Italian side.
You can find more on Palmieri
(including video footage) who looks like he would fit into Antonio Conte's
style of play as naturally as Davide Zappacosta has in a previous post written here.
Now to news of a player leaving
the club on loan and that's Baba Rahman (remember him?) who re-joins Schalke in
the Bundesliga on an 18-month loan deal confirmed by the club yesterday.
The Ghanaian left-back had played half a season for the German
side last season before he suffered a serious knee injury during the African
Nations Cup a year ago. Having returned to Chelsea and had the operation, Rahman
has battled back to full fitness to try and put himself into contention for
selection under Antonio Conte but it never happened.
Overall, both deals look like good deals for Chelsea with the attacking
wing-back Palmieri coming in and Rahman leaving. We just hope that Emerson
Palmieri can settle into life in London and the Premier League as quickly as possible
and that Rahman can regain his form that caught the eye of the Chelsea scouts
in the first place.
What’s your opinions of both deals?
