Having made a return to the Chelsea starting eleven for our 0-0 draw against Norwich City in the FA Cup this past weekend, David Luiz has been made available for loan with Jose Mourinho interested.
In light of the current spat between Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho (more on that in an additional post featured on the website) it's hard to see if there is any real substance in reports from the media stating that Manchester United have opened transfer discussions with Chelsea over a move this month for the Brazilian.
I hate to say this but watching him this past weekend it's clear that the player isn't himself, his body language doesn't look good and he is far from the player who made a triumphant return to Stamford Bridge in August 2016.
However, I cannot see that Chelsea will be willing to let David Luiz join one of our Premier League rivals for a top four spot at such a crucial time of the season. Our battle this season is with Manchester United for second place and it looks like going right through to the end of the season. What point would there be to strengthen their options at the back with signing of Luiz because let's face it, he is better on his day when his head is right, than any of their central defenders at the moment?
For the good of our football club and for the strength of our team/squad we need our best players to remain at the club. Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois are hopefully on the verge of signing new contracts, if we can convince Antonio Conte and David Luiz to bury the hatchet, put behind them their fall-out and repair the damage to their relationship as quickly as possible to re-affirm the commitment shown by Luiz when he came back here. That's from both sides by the way, not just the player but you have to admit that it doesn't look good because as we have seen with Diego Costa, once you cross the boss that's it here.
People have their opinion on the sale of Nemanja Matic to Manchester United this past summer with some stating that they could not understand why we would allow such a move to happen. It was clear that the player did not want to stay here and sign a new deal showing a lack of commitment which was why he was allowed to leave.
Are we about to see the same thing happen with David Luiz? If he is to go surely it has to be a club within Europe and not one of our top rivals?
