Having only managed to rescue a late point at home to Burnley on Boxing Day, Jose Mourinho has claimed that Chelsea and our other rivals do not have the same responsibilities as Manchester United.
I will start the post by saying that I will always love Jose Mourinho for what he did for our football club and the success he brought to us. However, now we are all on the outside looking in, we can see the same bollocks he comes out with that back then, we were more than happy to ignore as it felt that he was standing up for our football club.
His latest ridiculous comment comes after Manchester United rescued a late point against Burnley on Boxing Day knowing that with another victory over Newcastle (they won 1-0),, Manchester City would move 15-points clear of his struggling side.
When asked of the title race and the chase of Pep Guardiola's impressive side he said:
"A big club is one thing and another thing is a big football team. They are two different things.
When you speak about responsibilities to win the Premier League, Tottenham doesn't have that responsibility because they are not a club with the same history as us.
Arsenal doesn't have the responsibility to win it, Chelsea doesn't have the responsibility.
When you speak about big football clubs, you are speaking about the history of the club. " - Source: London Evening Standard.
First and foremost, I agree with the fact that Arsenal and Tottenham do not have a responsibility to win the Premier League with both having a level of expectation to at least challenge. If Tottenham fail to challenge then their supporters would see this season as a failure based on their most recent seasons.
As for Arsenal, I will never understand how Arsene Wenger remains as their manager when it's obvious there are more tactically advanced people working in this league, he lacks the transfer knowledge which became apparent when it took him at least five years to try and sort out his Goalkeeper and defensive positions and finally, the fact that he has been not even close to challenging for the Premier League in god knows how long?
However, for Chelsea I disagree totally with what he is saying here. We are the Premier League champions, a club that has won it five times in the last thirteen years, we've won the Champions League, the Europa League and numerous domestic cup competitions so surely now are regarded in England and Europe as a big club AND a big team?
We have a responsibility to challenge for the title in EVERY season and those levels of expectation are a result of what he did here. How does he not see that?
In my opinion, ever since he moved to Manchester United he has been miserable. There is no sparkle with him anymore and he is using his own failings with his football team to try and deflect away from that by coming out with these ridiculous statements.
Maybe its because this, the second season in charge, is always the one when he gets things right and wins the title, based on the fact he now sits fifteen points behind Manchester City that he realises that he is now under pressure having spent over £300m on his team since he arrived and they are still way off the pace.
I'm sorry Jose, now I can't be arsed to listen to you anymore which is a shame because there was a time when every football fan would sit up and take notice. If I was you, I would worry about Chelsea because the race is on for second place!
