Chelsea take on Southampton at Stamford Bridge tomorrow afternoon fresh from a better performance against Huddersfield and I believe that we should take the opportunity to rest two of our most influential players.
Of course with the busy period we are in now leading up to Christmas, Antonio Conte will be tempted to rotate his players once again and in my view, we could see as many as five or six changes to the Chelsea side that started against Huddersfield.
I expect the likes of Gary Cahill, Davide Zappacosta, Cesc Fabregas, Danny Drinkwater and Alvaro Morata to come back into the side with the likes of Toni Rudiger, Victor Moses, Tiemoue Bakayoko, N'Golo Kante and Eden Hazard rested for this one.
We have to have one eye on our Carabao Cup Quarter Final at home to Bournemouth in midweek which is why I am suggesting giving N'Golo Kante and Eden Hazard a rest as both need it with a downbeat Southampton side coming here fresh from a battering the other night against Leicester.
On that night watching the highlights, it was shocking to see just how many chances Leicester created in addition to the four goals they scored. If it wasn't for Fraser Forster in goal, it could have easily doubled in my opinion.
Chelsea have more quality in the final third than Southampton even with Eden Hazard dropping to the bench as in Pedro and Willian, they would provide Alvaro Morata more than enough support up front to get the job done.
I would like to see Danny Drinkwater start the game and dominate the midfield area with Cesc Fabregas alongside him. Southampton will be so wary of conceding goals that we should find that they drop off into a low defensive block. By doing so, with the movement of our front three, Cesc can operate almost as a quarterback from deep and pick his passes all day long.
It's games like tomorrow that we must take advantage of our opponents frailties at the back and exploit every opportunity. The game demands ruthlessness these days and we cannot afford another nightmare performance that we had to sit through against West Ham.
These are important times with bigger games coming up (no disrespect to Southampton or their supporters when I say that) so it's time to rest some big names for others to get a chance to shine.
Chelsea to win by three goals 3-0!
COME ON CHELSEA!!
Rudiger doesn't need a rest, he's only played in half the games he should have so far. I'd play our best eleven against Southampton (I doubt we'll do anywhere near as well as Leicester did on the night). Rest Hazard, Kante (and leave Cahill) for the league cup tie against Bournemouth.
