The record-breaking Manchester City side continued their impressive run by beating Tottenham comprehensively at the weekend. Cesar Azpilicueta stands defiant and believes that it's not yet over.
You have to be impressed with Pep Guardiola's side at the moment and their ability to win games having set the record for the most Premier League wins in-a-row now being at fifteen. The media and press are going to town on their impressive form asking the question if anyone can stop them this season with it looking increasingly difficult even at this early stage.
Cesar Azpilicueta, speaking after Chelsea had beaten Southampton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday making it eight wins, one draw and one defeat from our last ten games, believes that the Citizens can still be caught. He said:
“There is a possibility we can do it.
We have to believe. When we were top of the table last season, you could feel that other teams kept winning and pushing us.
It is true that what City are doing is unbelievable. They are breaking records — in our last 10 games, we have won eight, drawn one and lost one, yet we are further behind than before those 10 games started!
It is difficult to analyse it in that way. We have to look at ourselves, keep going, and put the pressure on them.” - Source: The Mirror.
It's a massive ask for all of us to try and close the gap but as Azpilicueta has said, there is still a long way to go and we have to believe. I remain more than frustrated with the way we have played against them because if we had played to our strengths, not sat back and allowed them to play their football, we could have caused them plenty of issues because I believe their defence has not yet been tested.
In my view, Manchester United are the team we are fighting against for second place this season. If we can continue to take each game as it comes and focus on them, we can then have a look to see what is happening higher up at City in the hope that they have the customary blip that everyone has at some stage.
