Chelsea drew with Liverpool 1-1 at Anfield last night in what I personally thought was a disappointing second half performance with two points dropped as a result.
I feel so frustrated this morning thinking of the game last night because for the third time this season against one of our top four rivals, we didn't do anywhere near enough going forward. As a result the likes of Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata drifted out of the game as we sat too deep in a defensive mindset.
As we all witnessed last night, there is a level of uncertainty about Liverpool at the back and in goal. Why on earth didn't we come out in the second half after dealing with their attacking threat so well in the first half with a mentality of "Now we are going to play our game"?
Liverpool were there for the taking, they had shown at times in the first half a level of panic when the ball came anywhere near their box. In that first half we demonstrated our pace on the counter-attack, Eden Hazard had collected the ball numerous times and ran at the Liverpool midfield towards their defence causing problems so why on earth didn't we take advantage of that in the second half?
Unfortunately in this one the manager made his tactical substitutions too late in my view. I was calling for Chelsea to go and attack Liverpool through my Twitter Account stating that Cesc Fabregas needed to come on for Tiemoue Bakayoko who had possibly his worst game in a Chelsea shirt so far.
As soon as Cesc came on he changed the momentum of the game. Now Chelsea were on the offensive and Liverpool reverted into a defensive shape. The time and space he was given to play his passes was unreal. Knowing he was on, Alvaro Morata came to life knowing that he would be involved in the game again, Eden Hazard suddenly picked up possession of the ball again and we found ourselves back in business.
Many Chelsea fans through Social Media have stated that this was a good point to bring home but I disagree totally. This was a poor second half performance for half an hour that nearly cost us all three.
Two points dropped in my eyes!
Again poor team selection by Conte. Chelsea so far behind man city and yet he put up defensive team
ReplyDeleteI truly concur. Liverpool don't have a solid defense.we just sat deep & gave them confidence to attack
ReplyDeleteConte gets a lot more right than he gets wrong and I'm loathe to criticise but I'm beginning to think that behind his modern day thinking, formations and tactical awareness, lies a thoroughbred Italian, raised on defensive football, struggling to be restrained.
ReplyDeleteI must admit the result was better than I expected, when I saw our starting line-up full of energetic ball winners in midfield, I was anticipating a narrow 1-0 or 2-0 defeat. Whilst the result wasn't as bad as I thought, it still feels like a defeat.
I was really hoping that Conte had learned from our 1-0 "hammering" at home to Manchester City but apparently not. As soon as I saw that line-up I knew we were asking for trouble. Why, when faced with a half decent attacking team, do we plant all our creative players on the bench and invite the opposition to play to their strengths and come at us? City murdered us, Liverpool could have but weren't good enough. If we didn't pay these teams so much respect, picked our best side and played our game, I'm sure we'd fare a lot better. What on earth is there to be afraid of? It's not as if we're facing Brazil!.......
Not that often I see things different to you CD,overall I did not think it was a bad-game to watch by both teams, very open and I thought we just might have come away with all the points,no matter what, Liverpool will always be a tough-away-fixture for any team,we may have lost a bit of ground points-wise,but there,s still a way to go and other sides will drop points here and there along the way,the side seem to be playing well at the moment with ;Dave; again [[in my view]] having a great game., being honest I still think it,s M/City,s to lose, Pep spent well got the players he wanted in early and it seems to be paying of,would Roman have splashed-out as much to keep on a level-pegging?,and it was always a tough-ask to win the league again, there,s not to many teams out there who we have to fear-playing,to me we have picked up since the City-loss and are playing well as a squad,so as much as I always want us to win games I,m not that upset at coming away with a draw.
