Eden Hazard speaking after the Liverpool game on Saturday has aimed a dig at Antonio Conte for what he believes to be negative tactics that played a huge part in our 1-1 draw.
For those regular readers of my Blog, you would be well aware that I was pissed off, fed up and frustrated on Saturday night at the final whistle against Liverpool. For those of you that have not seen my take on the overall performance then make sure you check it out HERE. Ahead of the game, if you had checked out the odds comparison service you would have seen that Chelsea were favourites heading into the game and in my view should have taken three points!
I was fed up with what I believed to be an error in tactical judgement by Antonio Conte and being honest it's very rarely that I say that. I personally felt that we set ourselves up to be compact in and around our defence, through midfield to ensure that we didn't leave ourselves exposed which was fair enough.
At half-time I felt what we had more than dealt with what Liverpool had to throw at us and if anything, when we played on the counter-attack through Eden Hazard in particular, we caused Liverpool far more problems.
I wanted Chelsea to come out in the second half with the mentality of "right, we've seen what you have got, now it's time to show you what we are capable of" and really attack them. It didn't happen and we found ourselves being sucked ten yards too deep, allowing Liverpool to come onto us and they scored. It was only when we went a goal down that our whole tactical approach to the game shifted and we took the game to them to get a well earned point that, if we are honest and played how we should have, could have been three points!
So to Eden Hazard and his comments after the game which, if you are Danny Drinkwater and Antonio Conte reading, would not have been too impressed with a clear dig aimed at both of them.
He said:
"It is a good point because when you are 1-0 down at Anfield, it is not easy to score. We should have scored more, but one point at Liverpool is satisfying.
We changed the system, Danny Drinkwater was on the pitch and then we were a bit more defensive.
The only player around me was Alvaro Morata, so if we wanted to win we had to do something together, just me and him.
That’s why I tried to pass my opponent every time, and in the first half we did well. In the second half it was more complicated but we scored so I am happy." - Source: London Evening Standard.
You have to credit Hazard for being honest and it's nice to hear a level of frustration from him. It's a clear message from the talented Belgian to Antonio Conte to state that we have more than enough quality within our squad to go out and attack these teams such as Liverpool who let's face it, are defensively weak.
As for Danny Drinkwater? I think his comments are tough on the England midfielder. Drinkwater surprisingly was the player making runs forward into the box from midfield on the night and I thought played well. If anything, Tiemoue Bakayoko should have been hauled off at half-time as he was having a real shocker.
Let's hope that we play the style of football that we are more than capable of this evening and make sure you check out the soccer betting odds for a home win against Swansea.
You equalised from a fluke but were the better team wow.
ReplyDeleteAccurate summary, we were the better side and did equalise with a fluke. Why the "wow"?
