Rather than get behind the English clubs as they look to compete in Europe's biggest club competition, the British press would rather focus on negativity and potential issues in the build up instead. In this case it was the situation with Thibaut Courtois contract filling our newspapers and online sources which as we know is nothing new. I simply cannot understand why they don't back the Brits!
In the 24-hours leading up to our victory over FC Qarabag 0-4, all you could read was how his contract discussions have broken down, his apparent demands for parity with the top earners at Chelsea and how he has refused to enter in any negotiations with the club in the very near future. Basically total bollocks made up from an interview he has given. In that very interview, he was asked of a possible new contract bearing in mind that this summer, he would only have a year left to run, he said:
"The most important thing is to perform well for myself and the team.
Regarding my contract, that's something where Chelsea must deal with my agent (Christophe Henrotay). I don't think there have been any new developments.
We have so many games at the moment, and I prefer to focus on the team's matches, my own performances, and there will be time enough towards the end of the season to have talks." - Source: SkySports.
As you read, there is no panic, there is no rush and the player just wants to focus on the football which is fair enough based on the fact that we are now playing every three days due to our European Champions League commitments.
We have read numerous times of Courtois and his contract with a potential move back to Spain with his comments made when away with the Belgium National side being miss-interpreted. We are only in November, we are approaching the busy Christmas and New Year period still in touch with the league leaders and it's important that everyone is focused on the job at hand.
We will see what happens at the end of the season but for now our Goalkeeper just wants to focus on the games and there is nothing wrong or concerning about that at all.
