Oscar has been speaking of the decision to leave Chelsea back in January and has revealed that he has the opportunity to return to Chelsea once his contract in China expires.
The 26-year-old Brazilian raised plenty of eyebrows when he signed for Shanghai SIPG for a whopping £52m and a contract that is reported to be £400,000 per week. Many people would have been more than happy to sign for the financial rewards alone but the player himself revealed that he only left Chelsea because Antonio Conte had made it impossible for him to stay.
He said:
"The proposal I had and the situation that was happening to me at the club, both played a part.
The first eight games I played very well, then I had a League Cup game (against West Ham) where I started on the left and the team lost and changed.
Then he (Conte) changed the team’s way of playing in a 3-4-3 and I did not play anymore, I did not have a position to play, because I’m a more offensive midfielder and then changed a lot.
So I decided to leave too, but I left the door open.
Yes, I would go back! I’m still young, I’m 26.
Who knows in two, three years to return to the Premier League… I would be very happy. And preferably for Chelsea, who opened the door for me to return." _ Source Daily Mail.
Unfortunately in football decisions are made for the better of the team rather than the individual and Oscar suffered for the decision taken by Antonio Conte that changed the destination of the Premier League title. None of us would or could complain about the switch to 3-4-3 as it had the desired effect on the team almost immediately as we went on our famous run of thirteen victories in a row!
Without question he has immense talent and many people questioned the decision that was made at the time but as we find ourselves down the line ten months later, he would still struggle to get into the side ahead of the likes of Eden Hazard and Pedro in my view.
Let's see what happens and where we find ourselves in two or three years time to see if there is a genuine opportunity for him to return.
