Cesc Fabregas has been quick to play down reports that Manchester City and Manchester United will run away with the race for the Premier League title this season.
Saturday evening was a blow to lose to Manchester City in arguably one of our worst performances under Antonio Conte. With Manchester United winning in another high scoring game at Old Trafford, both sides have stretched their lead over Chelsea to six points and everyone seems to be getting carried away with themselves at this early stage of the season.
TV Pundits, the Press and supporters up and down the country are already stating that these two will run away from everyone else in the title race and you can forget about Chelsea now this season. Basically people are talking bollocks and need a sense of realism before it gets out of hand.
Step up Cesc Fabregas who has had his take on the talk at the moment and was quick to remind everyone of what had happened this time a year ago. Speaking after the Manchester City defeat he said:
“This was without a doubt the same Chelsea of last season, but what happened was that we came up against a City side who went into the game much better rested than we did. Nothing more.
This time last year we were eight points behind, but it doesn't mean anything. There is still a long way to go in all competitions." - Source: London Evening Standard.
As with any season in the Premier League, you look to the Christmas/New Year period to come through that and the turn of the year to see where you are placed in the league table. That will give you an indication of exactly where you are in the title race.
Fabregas is spot on, last year we were eight points behind and at one stage tenth in the league table. This year if anything teams are stronger than before, even those who gained promotion last season to make the step into the Premier League. There are no more so-called easy games from week-to-week and you have to earn your points now.
There is such a long way to go and as we have seen last season, Chelsea are more than capable of putting another long run of victories together to close the gap on the Manchester sides.
You would be a fool to write of Chelsea under Antonio Conte, even at this early stage in the season so calm yourselves down up north!
Fabregas is the cause for Chelsea loss
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be nice if all players and managers would stand up and be counted rather than look for excuses? Diego Simeone, I take my hat off to you.
ReplyDeleteWe're talking about top athletes, in their prime, playing 90 minutes of football for the second time in just less than three days. Fabregas should shut up, man up, and take a look at how he can help himself and his teammates perform better next time out. City were simply too good for us on the day, it happens, live with it and learn.
