Davide Zappacosta has spoken of faith from Antonio Conte and a firm belief that his style is suited to one of the best places to play football in the world.
Having signed for the club on transfer deadline day, scoring that impressive goal (come cross) against Qarabag FK in the Champions League, I have to be honest, I thought that Davide Zappacosta would have been much more involved than he has to this point with Atletico Madrid away last week being one of those games.
Despite his lack of game time in the Premier League (Stoke away and at home against Manchester City when quite frankly anyone else could have played better!) and against Atletico Madrid, Zappacosta has been quick to praise the manager to bring him to England having previously called him up to the Italian national side when Conte was in charge.
He said:
"He (Conte) has shown a lot of faith in me. Firstly with the call-up to the Italy squad in 2016 and also now by signing me for Chelsea
I really admire him, I owe him a lot and because he has shown so much faith in me, I want to repay that and do my best.
I am convinced that I am well suited to the style of football in England, probably even more so than Italian football. There is more space because the intensity is higher and the game is much quicker, so I can look to exploit that.
I believe this is one of the best places to play football in the world, and I want to be involved in it for as long as possible." - Source: Metro.
We are yet to see how Davide Zappacosta settles to life in the Premier League and how he copes with the demands here. When I say that, I am referring to a regular run of games in the side but it seems that the manager is more than happy to stick with Victor Moses as he did against Atletico when I personally felt as though the Italian wing-back would have better suited for his defensive attributes compared to Moses. On the night, I was more than happy to have been wrong as Moses and his team-mates delivered an excellent result winning 2-1.
As the weeks go by and the demands of our fixture list begin to kick in, it will be interesting to see in which games Antonio Conte decides to select Zappacosta to start. Roma at home and away in the Champions League? What about the likes of Palace, West Brom and Bournemouth in the Premier League?
It's clear that we now have real competition down our right hand side and that can only be good for the team moving forward. You have heard from the player himself, he is more than determined to prove himself and repay the faith shown by the manager in him.
