On transfer deadline day, Chelsea signed Davide Zappacosta from Torino for a fee of 28m Euros and his signing gives Antonio Conte and exciting alternative to Victor Moses down our right hand side.
I just want to start by saying that Victor Moses has been a revelation playing under Antonio Conte at right wing-back and I sincerely hope that he continues to do so this season. However, looking at video footage of the player we have just signed, you cannot help but to be impressed by the Italian.
The first thing that strikes me about him is his ability to cross the ball from wide areas which you all would have to agree is not exactly a strong point of Moses. His ability to put the ball on a plate from deep positions, further forward to running towards the byline at pace is impressive.
He has a turn of pace which also helps in our league and although you cannot gauge much of his all round game, he seems to have plenty of stamina to get up and down the pitch.
According to various reports, the player loves to tackle and comes out on top in most one-on-one battles he comes up against which in addition to his attributes going forward, gives us a better balance on that side.
Matteo Pedrosi, journalist with Corriere dello Sport and a Torino fan, described Zappacosta:
"He does the two phases very well. He is very attentive in the defensive phase but is always looking to attack too. His best qualities are his running and his strength but he is also precise in his crossing and passing, and has a decent shot. Davide is a serious professional." - Source: SkySports.
As with any player that comes to the Premier League from another country it will take time to adjust to the pace and style of play here. I would expect that Conte would implement Zappacosta slowly into the first team but I would not be surprised if he then cements the right wing-back position has his own which would be tough on Moses.
In my view, he is the exciting alternative to Victor Moses. What do you think down our right hand side?
