Loic Remy has found himself to be a victim of consequence at Stamford Bridge ever since he joined the club for £10m back in the summer of 2014. Having to settle for the role of backup striker to new signing Diego Costa, Remy struggled to break through into the first team on a regular basis ever since he has been here.
Remy as we all know is a striker that prefers to play off of the shoulder of the last defender, he is someone who is always looking to make that run off the ball in the hope that he will receive that defence splitting pass to put himself in on goal which is what he had built his reputation for in England at his previous clubs.
The problem he had at Chelsea was that our team was built around Didier Drogba who literally had it all and gave the Chelsea team plenty of options. Drogba could hold the ball up, he was strong, mobile and was able to almost bully defenders. However, he could also offer the opportunity to play that defence splitting pass and was more than willing to run in behind.
Drogba was an all-round centre forward and achieved everything here at Chelsea with teams through the decade being built around his playing style. That mantle was then taken on by Diego Costa who is so similar to Drogba in every way. He offers everything to the side and the transition between the two was seamless with Drogba also returning to the club a year later hampering Remy even further.
When he did play for Chelsea, Remy scored some vital goals for us at crucial times and that's important to remember. In total he scored twelve goals in forty-two appearances over two seasons.
At 30-years of age, Remy still has so much to offer in the game and especially to a team that plays a certain way. Let's hope that personally for him it works out for him at Las Palmas.
