According to various newspaper reports and various media outlets, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has turned down a move to Chelsea despite a fee being agreed between both clubs and favours a move to Liverpool.
It sounds ridiculous really doesn't it. Liverpool are no-where near winning the Premier League at the moment if we take an objective look at their team so why on earth would "The-Ox" choose to turn down a move to the current Champions?
The same reports state that the reason he wants to leave Arsenal is because he isn't happy with the position he has been playing which is an attacking wing-back. Although a fee has been agreed between Chelsea and Arsenal (£35m), Chelsea have indicated that they would see him in the same position here and as a result, he has turned down a move believing that he would be offered a midfield position at Liverpool instead.
Looking at Liverpool's midfield, you would have to wonder where he would step in but I still personally believe that their defence is not good enough and consistent enough to make a real challenge for the title. You can check out Liverpool's odds for the title and that of Chelsea's here at NZ Betting sites.
I seriously hope from a Chelsea perspective as stated here yesterday, that we can convince the player to turn down Liverpool to choose to come to Stamford Bridge because I see him as much more than an attacking wing-back. He would offer his manager so much more in different positions whether that's as a deep-lying midfielder, an attacking midfielder, a box-to-box midfielder or an out-and-out winger.
As we all know, we should never just accept reports that a deal is dead in the water if a fee has been agreed. Chelsea would never give up unless instructed to by the manager.
The question is, would Antonio Conte see Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as a midfield option here instead of an attacking wing-back?
Only time will tell.

Arsenal Supporter here. If he can't get into our sorry midfield, how the fuck is he ever gonna get anywhere near yours? I could understand him taking a pay cut to join you lot but Liverpool? Really? I suppose he wants Liverpool because he knows he wont get a sniff of a game at Chelsea. Simply not good enough. Shocked you would want him anyway. I'd be concerned if I was a Chelsea fan about the quality of player you are now considering to buy.
ReplyDeleteunfortunately mate it appears Conte is desperate for english players, hence the interest in Oxlade Chamberlain, Barkley and Drinkwater. No idea why when we've got better young english players on loan
DeleteHe doesn't want to play for Arsenal and apparently he doesn't want to play for us either as he wants to play in midfield. Assuming we have Kante in place then that leaves us midfield options, without any further signings, of Bakayoko, Fabregas, Willian, Hazard, and Pedro.
ReplyDeleteIf Chamberlain thinks he'll get in the side ahead of any of the above then I can only think that he suffered from concussion at Anfield last Sunday and thinks he's Lionel Messi.
I think Sof Andrea (above post) has it pretty spot on, I am concerned at the quality we are looking to purchase. I'd like to see us spend money only on players that we'd expect to be in the starting eleven, someone better than we have already. The fact that they'd be an upgrade means that we'd simultaneously strengthen the squad by default. We could also make better use of our youth - would the likes of Chamberlain, Barkley and Drinkwater be better than Chalobah, Loftus-Cheek and Ake as squad players? I'd rather invest the same amount of money in fewer, top class, players that move us up a level.
Before I'm given any abuse, I am well aware that, of the youth I've mentioned, two have been sold and the other is on loan - It was just an example of our transfer policy and how I'd like to see it changed.
Deleteyeah but Norman your follow post destroys your entire argument --not only did the club want to keep ake and NC but they themselves made the decision to leave despite the offer of new contracts -- sorry but the real question is this:
Deletewho from our title winning team would u drop to play chalobah in midfield? Or Ake in defense? The only honest answer is no one and if that's the answer and Ake/NC don't want to sit on the bench ( with Russia WC coming who can blame them) then what exactly is the club meant to do about it? I'm sorry everyone would like to live in a perfect world but the problem is insolvable
As i said, my point is not about any specific individual just an example of how our transfer policy could be changed. Had you chosen Loftus-Cheek, I would certainly have him in our squad ahead of Chamberlain and used the £40m towards someone who'd improve our first eleven.
DeleteOf course you can't always keep the players you'd like to but such a change in transfer policy is certainly workable and, in my opinion preferable, if not perfect in every instance.
Alex oxy-moron he wouldn't get into the mid field of any of the top six prem league sides -- having decided he might struggle to get into our mid-field he decides to go to pool (who just beat his team 4-0) because he'll get in there -- fantasy -- he might make it at chelsea as a wing back -- but everything else forget it --if he wants to play central mid field its off to watford son or swansea or burnley or palace -- I mean what do they put in the water over there at arsenal --almost makes me feel some sympathy for wenger
ReplyDeleteA great blog, I will share it with my friends, thanks for your valuable posts
