Chelsea have reportedly been offered the opportunity by Borussia Dortmund to sign the Bundesliga top scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for £65-£70m this summer.
Having missed out on Romelu Lukaku and now it seems Alvaro Morata, Dortmund have taken the chance to capitalise on the fact that Chelsea MUST bring in a top class replacement for Diego Costa and have offered the Gabon striker.
I am a massive fan of Aubameyang and his ability to put the ball into the back of the net on a regular basis as he did below scoring 31 goals in the Bundesliga last season to win their golden boot award taking his impressive tally for Dortmund to 120 goals in just 189 appearances in total.
However, questions remain whether or not he would fit in at Chelsea with the team been built around a physical presence and focal point up front. Think of Didier Drogba and now Diego Costa, both virtually bully defenders, hold the ball up to bring others into play, are strong, physical and can lead the line in the Premier League more then comfortably. Is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang that striker?
As you will see in the video above, Aubameyang is more of a striker that gets on the end of things rather than making things happen for himself. He plays off the shoulder of the last defender and by doing so is clinical.
I call into question whether or not he would fit because of my personal take on the strikers role at Chelsea. The team is all about building our play from the back, making use of the ball quickly and playing up to the focal point. Chelsea would need to adjust their style to accommodate him but with a record like that, why would you not?
I accept that maybe Antonio Conte is looking for someone up top who isn't the focal point anymore and that idea is now dated. I just do not want another Fernando Torres situation at our club because he signed at a time when the team was built around Drogba who was a different striker because of the reason I have stated previously.
There is an argument that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would fit right in at Chelsea because he will give us more fluidity moving forward with the pace we have in the side. Imagine a clinical striker like him up front being supported by the likes of Eden Hazard, Willian and Pedro, you wonder just how many goals he would score.
This summer has been a massive disappointment for us so far having missed out on three of our prime targets. Could a player who did not appear to be on our radar at the start of the summer turn out to be the perfect solution for Antonio Conte?
I feel aubameyang would be a good edition .... As we see in the video above it was usmane dembele who provided him with the assists and here in Chelsea we have hazard and Pedro.....Etc I.e he'll be a good edition
ReplyDeleteMaybe Antonio conte is now focusing on the pace of the striker. This can work well on counter attacks.
ReplyDeleteWe can look at any number of top strikers but the only ones we're likely to capture are those where the selling club want to fleece us and there's no other competition for the players signature (Dortmond are no mugs - I'm afraid we are).
ReplyDeleteIf I were Conte I'd be focusing more on my own options than that of the club right now. He couldn't have done more to put us in an almost perfect position to strengthen for the coming season and the club couldn't have done less to take advantage of the situation.
After watching the video, all I can say is that Chelsea should buy Dembele
ReplyDeleteexactly what i was thinking
DeleteWell Aubameyang won't suit Chelsea, but you wanted Morata? that's funny though.
