Chelsea missed out on re-signing Romelu Lukaku who has opted to sign for Manchester United and are now in danger of missing out on Tiemoué Bakayoko in addition after Jose Mourinho agreed a deal with Monaco.
The protracted and drawn out transfer saga involving Romelu Lukaku is over after the Belgian was advised by his agent (to the tune of £12m personally) to sign for Manchester United as part of an arrangement that included Wayne Rooney making an emotional return to Goodison Park. A fee of £75m + add ons has been agreed with personal terms concluded despite Chelsea matching United's offer.
The difference between our offer and Manchester United's was our reluctance to pay Lukaku's agent the £12m personally that he demanded for any deal to be completed whereas United were more than happy to pay. You have to question his agent here and his motives. In my opinion, and it doesn't matter who it is, who they currently play for and who they are looking to move to, an agent should look after the players best interests and not their own. They should NEVER have any influence on the decision making process because at the end of the day they are employed by the person they represent.
This part of the deal has obviously had a HUGE influence on the Lukaku to Manchester United deal and anyone who thinks otherwise it blinkered because let's face it, Jose Mourinho went out and signed supposed marquee signings last season to take the massive step forward but finished sixth! You have to question why would you want to sign for Manchester United right now compared to the Champions?
The deal is done, Lukaku's agent has made the decision for him and he will sign for Jose Mourinho and we have to move on (more on that later). The concerning thing is however, is that reports have surfaced today stating that Jose Mourinho is trying to get another one up on his old club by matching the transfer fee agreed between Chelsea and Monaco for Tiemoué Bakayoko to which Monaco have also accepted. Now the player is free to talk to Mourinho and United in addition to those conversations already had with Chelsea.

We have been hearing for two weeks that Bakayoko was a done deal and have watched footage of him saying goodbye to his Monaco team mates as he prepares for life in England. That all seemed as though it would be in West London but Mourinho looks to scupper that plan and I just wonder what the French midfielder will do now?
If for whatever reason Tiemoué Bakayoko follows Romelu Lukaku's decision to reject the opportunity to join Antonio Conte to sign for Jose Mourinho at Manchester United then serious questions need to be asked of Michael Emenalo here. All we have to show for ourselves is a good singing in Antonio Rudiger and a god awful one in Willy bloody Caballero. If we miss out again then I fear a backlash against Michael Emenalo.
Let's see what happens but take it from me, the signs are not good and Jose Mourinho is becoming a real pain in the arse for Chelsea! The thing is, and I will say it again, they only finished sixth last season and still need to sort their defence out if they are to make a realistic challenge to get back into the top four.
If Chelsea miss out and have to rely on the midfield pairing of Kante and Matic then that's OK with me as we have already seen last season just how impressive they can be. However, it's clear that Antonio Conte wants to strengthen his squad and Bakayoko would be another of his prime targets to do exactly that.
While I agree with some of your comments,ie the Lukaku one in particular,I am not so sure about the rest, getting a ;decent; 2nd/string keeper is tough for most prem/clubs,we had it Czech/TC and recently with TC/AB,so I have to ask you how would you sort it,,the Bakayoko deal won,t cause me much concern,we already have at least 2players for that position,,while Jose is doing his best to unsettle the club early,I hope he gets to regret it in our ;meeting; with mu this coming season,;;missing out;;with the supposed/signings might even be of benefit to CFC, Roman might have to have a Word with a certain individual has to why this was allowed to happen?? I,ve said before my main concern is with the Conte and his Staff not signing any new contracts yet,I,ll be much happier once we hear that as done/dusted,and while mu needed to strengthen/rebuild their squad as a whole in many positions,CFC just need to add a few players to an already ;good team; and there is many players still out there who we can go after,as long as Antonio signs I,m not that worried as to who we do/don,t get in,
ReplyDeleteps ,,,sorry for some ''typo'' error/problems,,,,I,m checking my ;braincells; right now.
DeleteLukaku's attitude (and that of his Father) has always been bad, when he was with us and at Everton. His agent is what you'd expect. Like it or not, United are a massive club and Mourinho always wins the title in his second season (often in his first). They'll take some stopping this coming season and would probably be most players choice to join ahead of the majority of other clubs. Having said that, I'd like to offer my sincere thanks to each and every one of those mentioned as I think we've dodged a bullet by missing out on Lukaku.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of Bakayoko, I've no qualms about missing out on him either. An okay player but costly (certainly in comparison to Chalobah!) and we already have Matic.
It's our failure in general to sign anyone of note in a timely fashion which concerns me and not for the first time. I can't bring myself to mention his name any longer but suffice to say that, unlike your good self, I wouldn't fear a backlash towards him, I'd welcome it.......but it wont happen!
