Antonio Conte has signed a new two-year contract at Chelsea making him the highest paid manager in the clubs history and reaffirms his commitment to our club.
There are literally no words to describe the achievements of Antonio Conte at Chelsea last season and the impact he made in the Premier League. Having been defeated twice against Liverpool at home and Arsenal away, he found his team 10th in the Premier League having conceded at least two goals in every game. What happened next changed the course of football both at Chelsea and in the modern game.
In England we are a proud nation and very proud of our football heritage. Our game was built around a solid 4-4-2 formation that became set in stone through decades. As foreign players and foreign managers have come to these shores with their different ideas and approach to the game, it was first met with some resistance but now more than ever, our game has expanded to become what we sit and watch week in, week out now.
When managers walk into a football club for the first time it's important to work as much as possible with their players, to understand their qualities and what they bring to the side. By doing so, they can then make a decision to either mould the players they have into the tactical approach the manager wants or, they can build a formation around the players they have to get the best set up for both players and manager.
That's what Antonio Conte did when he first came here despite sticking to the tried and tested formation that had served Chelsea well for the most part over the last three or four seasons. It was at half-time against Arsenal away, losing 0-3 that Conte decided to make the tactical change to a formation that he believed would suit the players and everything changed from that moment. We drew 0-0 in the second half but Conte had witnessed enough to know that this was the way forward now.
Thirteen wins in a row followed, our best ever team performance in my view against Everton winning 5-0 was part of that run, thirty wins in a Premier League season and Conte led Chelsea to our FIFTH Premier League title which was our second in three years.
There are no words to describe the man who the fans adore and it's clear that he adores us as he spoke of his new deal on the Official Chelsea Website yesterday. He said:
"I am very happy to have signed a new contract with Chelsea.
We worked extremely hard in our first year to achieve something amazing, which I am very proud of. Now we must work even harder to stay at the top.
The Chelsea fans have given me so much support since I arrived here one year ago and it is important we continue to succeed together.”
You look and read reports that Conte has been furious with the Chelsea board for not making the signings that he wanted for a second summer running. Surely the new deal puts an end to those rumours as the passionate Italian would not have made such a commitment to Chelsea unless there were other targets that he wanted the club to sign which could still happen.
The man is a tactical genius and the fact that he has reaffirmed his commitment to us literally is the best signing we could have made this summer without question!.
It's good for us that he looks like staying (for a while at least) but other than that I'm not sure what the club have gained from this new contract. He had two years left of a three year contract anyway so on the face of it we've just given him more money as a reward for last seasons efforts.
ReplyDeleteI'm really struggling to see the logic in this deal but then again it would have been secured by Gronskaia in conjunction with Emanalo so why should I be surprised?
Dude Conte deserves what he's getting from Chelsea. Sometimes we the fans demand so much and unrealistically so. Don't be too pessimistic cos the new contract isn't anywhere near what Mourihno and Pep are getting in their respective clubs. He was more than successful last season and deserves his new contract. For the past decade we (Chelsea) have been very successful and I don't think we will fail now.
DeleteMy point had nothing to do with what Conte deserves, nor what he earns in relation to others, nor whether we'll continue to be successful. It was simply that prior to him signing a two year contract, we had his signature on two year contract - dude.
DeleteJust glad to get this done/dusted,,the length of contract does seem strange, but lets all be honest how many managers at any club see out their contract, excluding Arsenal of course,I see even Jose now wants 15+years at Utd,I seem to remember him talking along those lines about his beloved CFC.the game now ;craves; instant success/results which is why the game has such a high turnover of managers.so I see 2/3 years as a bench/mark for most managers, and then the merry-go-round starts again,,lets just all enjoy Antonio,s stay with us,I think he,s great, but I m under no delusion that he will be here for ever-and-a-day....ktbffh
