Alvaro Morata will be a major success at Chelsea, will not suffer the same problems as Fernando Torres and will prove to be a better signing than Romelu Lukaku mark my words.
The signing of Morata in my view comes only second to Antonio Conte signing a new contract to re-affirm his commitment to Chelsea. I honestly believe that he could become a legend here over the next five - ten years and have similar success to that of Didier Drogba - yes he is that good!
I know that people will have their doubts about him, people will state that he could not force his way into the Real Madrid side week in, week out and will claim that he isn't anywhere near the same as Didier Drogba. All I will say is that just as Drogba had at Chelsea, he will have time to develop, time to grow under Antonio Conte and will become one of the worlds best.
Antonio Conte spoke publicly for the first time of Morata today and said:
‘I think for sure he is good signing for us. Morata is a young player who has a lot of experience. He has played with Real Madrid and Juventus and has a lot of experience for the league and also in the Champions League.’
You must be very good and don’t make mistakes when you buy because you have to spend a lot of money and it is very important your choice. Morata for sure is a first-choice [for team selection] a good striker and a player with the right prospects for Chelsea. He is very young, for sure he can improve a lot and I hope to show his value with us.' - Source: Chelseafc.com.
On the day it was announced that an agreement had been reached to sign Morata, I wrote my opinion of him here, but I want to take time to explain what I see when I look at Alvaro Morata and elaborate on the fact that I believe he is next in line to Didier Drogba and Diego Costa.
I will state right now on record that Alvaro Morata will NOT suffer the same problems as Fernando Torres had here when he first came because he is a different player that offers a team so much more. You think of Drogba and Costa and what they give to your team. Power, strength, a presence up front, pace, the ability to hold the ball up to bring others into play, an eye for a pass, goals and the ability to create something out of nothing. Fernando Torres couldn't do all that because he was a striker that made runs into the channels and fed off of those balls being played to him all the time.
At Chelsea it's very different and when he first came, Torres used to make the same runs he would at Liverpool and not get the ball played to him because Chelsea was built around moving the ball out wide or if forward, to a big man up there who would hold it up or make something happen. How many times did we witness from the stands Torres throw his arms about in frustration? It's because he was bought at the time the team was build around Didier Drogba and we didn't suit his style.
Then came along Diego Costa who has given the team everything that Drogba did and settled into our style of play from day one. He can offer us what is required whether it's to be involved in our build up play, to put the ball in the back of the net by creating something from nothing (West Brom at home last season) or to just get on the end of things to score.
Alvaro Morata has it all and is such an intelligent player who is not afraid of working hard for his team mates. He can drop deep to pick up the ball, play in behind and that's in addition to everything else that would be required here at Chelsea. I am 100% serious, he is the next in line to Drogba and Costa because he is that good already and under Antonio Conte, he will only get better and better.
I absolutely agree with you. Morata is the perfect striker signing. He has wanted to work under Conte, he has spoken highly of him and he has been Conte's first-choice striker option. This could easily be the Premier League transfer of the summer as he will be our first-choice striker and hopefully will get 20-25+ goals this season.
