Tammy Abraham has signed a new 5-year contract at Chelsea and agreed a season long loan deal to join Paul Clement at Swansea for the new Premier League season.
You could say is that life is good for Tammy Abraham right now after such a successful season at Bristol City. Abraham won double honours at their end of season awards collecting their Player of the Year in addition to their Young Player of the Year having scored 26 goals in 48 appearances for The Robins.
So to his new contract at Chelsea and all the signs are good as the club has taken a massive step forward to secure his long term future. The club have taken steps to ensure that his pathway through to the first team is not obstructed having rejected the opportunity to sign other promising strikers as they believe that Abraham is the next big thing at Chelsea.
As with any player of his age that has not yet been exposed to the demands of the Premier League, Chelsea are thought to have agreed a deal with Swansea involving no fee for his services but the basic costs of a move covered by the Welsh side. It is also being reported that Swansea will pay Abraham his new wage of £50,000 per week with a substantial goal bonus being offered which is excellent news for the 19-year-old striker as he looks to make an impact this coming season.
There of course has to be a concern that Abraham will suffer the same fate as Patrick Bamford who made a bigger impact in the Championship as he was voted the Championship Player of the Year. Bamford had made his mark and looked to kick on with exposure to the Premier League but as we all know, it never worked out for him for one reason or another at a number of clubs on loan (Burnley, Crystal Palace and Middlesborough) and he has since dropped back down into the Championship with a permanent move to to the last of the three clubs listed for a fee of around £6m.
It's clear that Tammy Abraham is a very different striker to Patrick Bamford and offers us more with his pace, power and movement. He literally has everything that is required to become a star in our game and I sincerely hope that with this move to Swansea, that he is given regular first team football to really make a name for himself before he comes back to Chelsea. Paul Clement the Swansea supremo used to work for the Chelsea Academy so will be well aware of what the club expects with Abraham so lets see what happens in the first few weeks of the season.
Tammy Abraham has secured his long-term future at Chelsea, a lucrative move to Swansea and a chance to play in the Premier League. Let's hope he takes it with both hands!
