For Chelsea fans, it's a very confusing time regarding the immediate future of Eden Hazard. We all just want to know one way or the other if he is going to remain at Chelsea or, if he is about to sign for Real Madrid.
I talk of being a confusing time because over the past week or so we have heard various comments from him before he fractured his ankle.
We heard Hazard talk of wanting to remain at the home of the Champions Chelsea for two more years, that with some new signings to improve the team, Chelsea could go far in the Champions League. He also talked of Chelsea being his "second home" and that he wanted to stay to win trophies. We read that Chelsea were preparing a new contract to the tune of a reported £320,000 per week to keep him at the club and everything seemed really positive. Now, according to recent reports, despite all this, if Real Madrid came calling he WOULD want to speak with them and has stated that anything can happen in football!
His injury may delay any potential negotiations over a possible move but I still expect there to be some dialogue between Chelsea and Real Madrid. Now whether that is for Chelsea to tell Real Madrid to shove off and go away is one thing because as we have seen in recent times, the players themselves hold the key to their futures whether they are tied down to a contract or not.
So to Hazard and some of the comments he has made in recent weeks of staying at Chelsea. Speaking after the FA Cup Final defeat he said:
"I’m good here. I’m at one of the best clubs in the world and I think I’m going to stay for a couple of years. I’m very happy.
You can see on the pitch that I’m happy.
Next season, we will have the Champions League to play but we want to keep the Premier League trophy in Chelsea.
It’s going to be hard but we know [people] expect a lot from Chelsea now." - Source: Daily Mail.
Speaking ahead of linking up with the Belgium squad ahead of the games coming up last week he said:
“The Champions League is a very difficult competition with many good teams who are capable of reaching the semi-finals and the final.
You never know, but if we continue with the way we've been playing this season we can go far.
Maybe with a couple of new players to take the level even higher we can do well, but it's not just about quality, you also need a bit of luck.” - Source: London Evening Standard.
Eden Hazard was asked of the continued speculation this passed weekend ahead of training with Belgium and re-iterated how he feels about Chelsea and life in London. He said:
"I’ve spent five years here, I know everything about the club. Even if I’m still only 26 I have a lot of experience now. I started playing at 16 in France so I’ve been professional for 10 years.
I like it here because it’s a family club. I have a lot of friends and we all talk to each other. In terms of games and experience I’m one of the oldest players and that’s good.
This is my second home and I’m happy at Chelsea. I just want to keep going, maintain this intensity and continue to win trophies." - Source: London Evening Standard.
Then, this passed weekend as the Champions League Final approached with Real Madrid preparing to face Juventus (which they beat and have won the competition for the twelfth time), Hazard spoke of a potential move to Madrid and did nothing to distance himself from the rumour that has seemed to intensify over recent weeks. He said:
“Leaving Chelsea? Never say never in football, but at the moment it’s not something that’s on my mind.
We all have our dreams. I haven’t spoken to Chelsea yet.
To be honest, I don’t know which offers will arrive. What I know is that I still have a contract for 3 years at Chelsea.”- Source: The Sun.
You can see how confusing the situation regarding his future is. Although he has re-iterated his intention to stay he hasn't put to bed any thoughts of joining Madrid if they came calling!
One thing is clear, if Chelsea are to maintain their grip on the Premier League next season whilst making a real push to do well in the Champions League we MUST keep our best players. Eden Hazard is our best player and we have to re-iterate that we can give him the platform he needs within Europe to win the Ballon D'or and hopefully the Champions League for a second time. I don't know about you but I just want the whole situation sorted out now as this has the potential to rumble on right through to the end of August now that he is out of the game or two to three months.
What do you think he will do this summer? Will he stay or go?
The sort of comments you'd expect in this day and age given the influence of agents and the sums of money involved. I suspect his injury will give us the opportunity to get his signature on a new, even more lucrative, contract. Every cloud eh?
ReplyDeleteOf course, come next season any new contract will prove meaningless and the whole saga will start again.
Once again my long lost'' twin'' has beaten me to it,so nothing more to add from me..
