Michy Batshuayi has re-iterated that with the World Cup on the horizon next summer, he can ill afford to spend another season on the Chelsea bench.
What can you say about the "batman"? He has had an up and down season to say the least hasn't he if you think about it. He started off well and with a bang scoring the winner against Watford and everything seemed to be falling into place for him with some good early appearances.
Then, he found himself stuck on the bench for all the Premier League games having to settle for bit-part appearances late in games or to settle for starting in the domestic cup competitions.
To when the season came to a close and scoring the goal that clinched the Premier League title followed by a couple more in our final game of the season to finish on a real high, sending an important reminder to Antonio Conte of his abilities in front of goal. It hasn't been easy for the young Belgian striker.
Batshuayi is away on international duty with Belgium and has scored in their friendly earlier this week as they prepare for this weekend and he has been asked of this past season and his immediate future. I have to say his response is totally honest which is refreshing to hear. He said:
"Everyone knows that I have to play more, that I have to score goals. There’s a World Cup coming up next year. I want to be ready for the World Cup.
But I’m not going to ask anything. I’m going to listen to what they are saying. They are the boss, not me. And afterwards I’ll discuss it with my agent and the club. Amicably, as friends of course. A loan? That’s not up to me. That’s up to them. They take the decisions, not me.
I have lived difficult moments, but it’s in times like those that you learn the most. Certainly when you’re surrounded by top-class players, like Cesc Fàbregas, Eden Hazard, all of them, you only can make progress in a situation like that. I haven’t played a lot, you know, but I managed to scored one of the most important goals. It gave me a boost. Good for me, good for the team. Of course I wanted to play more. And of course I wanted to score more goals. That’s normal. All players want that. But we have become champions. That’s really good for me. It’s a wonderful experience.” - Source: The Guardian.
It's seems as though a move away from Chelsea is on the cards this summer but it's unclear whether that will be on a permanent basis or if a loan move suits all parties with the player himself eyeing a potential place at next summers world cup as his motivation ahead of the new season.
Marseille, West Ham and now Sevilla have all reportedly registered an interest in his services and have enquired over his availability. It's now down to the manager and the board to decide his future.
I have to say that he has all the natural ability you look for in a striker. He is quick, has en eye for a goal, he is strong and his movement is good. Imagine being given a regular start here what he could achieve?
I hope that if he goes it's a loan move.
