Claude Makelele has hit out at comparisons between N'Golo Kante and himself and claims that they are being made in a bad way because we need to judge him when he plays every four days.
What is there that is left to say about N'Golo Kante over the passed two seasons. Having won back-to-back titles, having won all the awards he has personally and having registered the most impressive stats that demonstrate just how effective has been in the Premier League since he arrived at Leicester two seasons ago, Claude Makelele is having none of it. It almost seems as though he has become tired or being compared to the hard-working midfielder and has been quick to point out his lack of games at the highest level.
He said:
"At the moment Kante is special and one of the best midfielders.
The problem is, I played 25 years in football at this level and comparisons are being made in a bad way.
This season he did not play in the Champions League. Every four days there will be games.
With the national team there will be games. There will be a lot of games. He needs to get that experience.
When he is at that level, he will not run for 90 minutes all the time.
He will need to listen to the rhythm, the way he plays. This will be key for him. I hope this will be the situation. I hope he does better than I did in my career." - Source: The Sun.
He has a point. Although it's natural to make comparisons to the man that changed the game in the Premier League and had the position named after him. He is right to point out that for two seasons running he has only played in the three domestic competitions with no additional involvement within Europe.
To me there seems to be this cloud over Antonio Conte and N'Golo Kante which has somewhat dampened the appreciation that other supporters up and down the country should have for what they have both achieved this season. We all know what an amazing job both have done since they arrived in the summer but it's the lack of European competition that people will use as an excuse to almost diminish their achievements.
People will be looking at the likes of Conte and Kante next year to see if they can maintain their level of performance at Chelsea to take us on in the Champions League as far as possible in addition to maintaining our grip on the Premier League. It will be interesting to see if Kante can be a dominant in that midfield area as Makelele once was back in the day.
You would have to admit that Chelsea would be considered outsiders for the Champions League next season despite the fact that we return as Premier League champions for the second time in three years. To check on Chelsea's chances ahead of the competition make sure you grab your free bet.
I personally believe that he would be because of the massive amount of energy he has. We have to see what happens this summer in the transfer window and who the manager is looking to bring in to bolster the options he has in that area after selling Mikel back in January. This year, their was evident rotation of players in the deeper midfield positions for certain games between Cesc Fabregas, Nemanja Matic and Kante himself. An additional player, someone as effective defensively would give the manager to rest players when they need to be in order to maintain a level of performance that he demands.
Although Claude Makelele has a point with the fact that he is yet to play Champions League football and regular International games for France, I believe that N'Golo Kante has everything it takes to be a better all round player and will hopefully sustain his fantastic performances in a Chelsea shirt as we challenge for European honours this coming season.
1) He's excellent but not as good as Makelele.
ReplyDelete2) Dampened other supporters appreciation? If supporters of other clubs didn't have the fact that we weren't playing in Europe to cling to, they'd simply find and/or create another "reason" why we won the title rather than there own club. Its the way of the football fan.
Very good, I think I found the knowledge I needed. I will see and refer some information in your post. thank you.
