Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign 34-year-old Dani Alves by Juventus this summer and are considering making their move to bring him to Stamford Bridge.
Despite the defeat in this past weekends Champions League Final in Cardiff, Juventus have had a fantastic season and Dani Alves has been a revelation since he joined from Barcelona last summer. Despite his obvious age, Alves has demonstrated throughout the season that he has no issues with his fitness playing as an advanced wing-back in their version of the 3-4-3 formation.
Alves has made a real impression this year, especially in the Champions League with goals and assists in some high profile games. He has 12-months remaining on his contract but it's believed that a decision has already been made to bring in a younger replacement and are happy for him to move on.
So what of the reports that he has been offered to Chelsea? Would you sign him for next season? I have to say that I would in a heartbeat. Antonio Conte is looking for competition down our right hand side with Victor Moses (who has had a fantastic season himself) our number one this past year.
You would have to say that Alves would provide us with better options in attack and in defence if he signed, just ahead of Moses and the fact that he find ourselves back in Europe, we could see Conte rotate the two between games to keep Alves fresh for the big, big games with Moses featuring in the majority of the others.
The downside to a possible move is that firstly, Manchester City are also to be interested in signing him offering him a chance to link up with Pep Guardiola again. Secondly, his age and there would be doubts as whether or not he would be able to compete on a regular basis with the pace and power of our game. Finally, you would have to wonder whether or not there is actual substance in these reports.
With any transfer window and signings that Chelsea make, I am looking for someone to come into the club and provide almost instant competition for places as this only gives the person who has the spot in the team a kick up the arse and motivation to work harder to keep their place, but also provides the manager with options.
For me Dani Alves would do exactly that so I would sign him. What do you think? Would you sign him?
