According to various reports in the media Eddie Howe is preparing a £30m combined offer this summer for Asmir Begovic and Nathan Ake.
Two things here to start with. First of all it's remarkable really isn't it that we are even contemplating Bournemouth offering that amount of money to anyone! It just goes to show you the money in the game now is ridiculous in that a club with such a small fan base/stadium (no offence) can afford to spend that amount.
Secondly, I personally believe that there is real substance in these reports and a deal could happen. Whether that is for one of them on a permanent basis and the other on a season long loan I am not so sure, but I can see both going there for next season.
Asmir Begovic.
He's never going to oust Thibaut Courtois or anyone that comes in as a potential replacement for the big Belgian if we decide to sell him to Real Madrid. It's nothing personal but he has reached a level which unfortunately is not a title challenging team in the Premier League.
Granted on his day he has proven that he is a great shot stopper but the Bosnian Goalkeeper needs to be playing first team football week in, week out as he did at Stoke before he came here.
If Bournemouth make their move, I believe Antonio Conte would have little consideration and would sell for the right money. Expect this deal to happen on a permanent basis.
Nathan Ake.
The story with Nathan Ake is very different. Firstly he made a really good impression on loan down on the south coast during the first part of the season. Secondly, he has proven to Antonio Conte that he offers him a solution in more than one position which these days is a bonus. Whether that is at centre-back, wing-back or in the middle of midfield, Ake has the ability to do the job for the team.
The problem Ake will have is who Chelsea are looking to recruit this summer now that Antonio Conte has secured the Premier League title in his first season. One or two defenders are sure to be on his shortlist and whoever comes in would be considered ahead of him in the pecking order.
Nathan Ake has already has a taste of regular first team football in the Premier League and if he was offered the same again, I believe he would jump at the chance to take it and request a move. It's whether or not Chelsea are happy to sell him or to insist on another season long loan (which Bournemouth would insist that there is no recall clause inserted this time around) is yet to be seen. I would expect him to leave the club in the summer but it is unclear on what conditions.
What do you think of both players and their futures at Chelsea? What of Bournemouth's interest and would you sell for £30m combined?
