Romelu Lukaku will reject the advances of Jose Mourinho and Manchester United this summer to seal a dream return to Chelsea for a fee reported close to £100m.
It's a crazy amount of money that would only be offset with Diego Costa leaving Chelsea for around £76m to finally move to China. If use the money recouped with the sale of Costa and add that to the monies received from the sales in January of Oscar, Mikel and Branislav Ivanovic, Chelsea will still have plenty to spend on additional players now they have won a reported £158m in prize and TV money this season.
It's true, it's a massive, ridiculous amount of money to even consider spending on someone who is still not quite the finished article. However, having scored 24 goals this season, 86 in 165 Premier League appearances overall (including his loan at West Brom), he is someone who has proven to be a fantastic striker and goalscorer who is now at the right stage in his career to come back and lead the Chelsea attack.
Just look at what Antonio Conte has achieved at Chelsea this season. Not only the title and a possible double by winning the FA Cup, he has taken the likes of Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses who, without being disrespectful, had pretty average careers in football to this point and turned them into Champions. You have to wonder what he could do to Lukaku working with him day in, day out.
I've said this many times on here, Lukaku needs to work on his strength and his ability in the air. I am at a loss to understand how someone that big, much bigger than Didier Drogba and Diego Costa, could not impose himself on opposing defenders the way both of those players have done at Chelsea?
This is a massive summer for all the Premier League clubs but for the top six in particular. I can see record spending being reported as we head into next season with Chelsea being right at the forefront with at least four new signings coming in.
Will one of those signings be Romelu Lukaku for £100m or a fee close to that amount? I guess we will just have to wait and see.
