Bertrand Traore fresh from the Europa League Final and a good season with Ajax has become a target for Lyon who are looking for a replacement for Alexandre Lacazette who is expected to leave this summer.
In addition to Ajax who have also expressed their interest after a successful season with the Burkino Faso striker, Lyon have reportedly tracked Traore for the whole season and have made an enquiry as to his availability. It's being reported here in The Sun that Chelsea have told Lyon they are looking for a fee of at least £17.5m.
I have to say that there is no question of his talent and ability, he failed to impress in the Europa League Final against Jose Mourinho and Manchester United. I was really looking for him to give Antonio Conte a reason to have no choice but to take a serious look at him in pre-season this coming July after the summer break. I really wanted him to impress and have a good game but it didn't happen and he struggled to find his feet.
We know that he became frustrated at Chelsea after being given a run of games last season under Jose Mourinho followed by Guus Hiddink after the special one was sacked for the second time. To be fair to him, he took his first team chances well and at one point had scored four goals in five games but found his chances limited towards the end of the season.
Traore signed a new three-year contract at Chelsea last summer before he joined Ajax on loan which appears to have been a smart move with the latest developments regarding his immediate future. If you ask me £17.5m is a lot of money but for someone in Europe it could turn out to be a fantastic investment.
I cannot see Traore being given an opportunity here next season so expect him to leave the club on a permanent basis for yet more hefty profit made by the club on a promising young talent.
