According to various reports, Chelsea are planning to tie Antonio Conte down a long-term, lucrative contract to fend off interest from Inter Milan with the promise of substantial transfer funds as he prepares to take a crack at the Champions League with Chelsea next season.
Roman Abramovich has made some cracking decisions over the years since he became the owner of Chelsea Football Club. Granted, at times he has also made some decisions that we didn't agree with at the time but one thing is 100% crystal clear for both sides, he MUST keep Antonio Conte at Chelsea and literally do whatever it takes for him to do so.
If that means finally relinquishing some control of transfers then so be it. If it means that he is given freedom to appoint someone who HE wants as his number two replacing Steve Holland this summer then so be it. If that also means that Michael Emanalo and Marina Granovskaia have to get their act together to ensure that we do not suffer a repeat of last summer and they pull out all the stops to sign the players Conte wants this summer then so be it.
Pep Guardiola was asked of Antonio Conte recently and said:
"My opinion about my colleague Conte is that he's superb.
He was able to make Italy play beautiful football - Juventus too - in a culture where it's so defensive.
He's an excellent manager, I learn a lot when I see his teams - Juventus, Italy and now. I like to do that because you see what they want to do. Their teams control a lot of aspects.
"Maybe he's the best." - Source: BBC Sport.
It has been an amazing season for Conte, his first in England and in a foreign country after domestic success as a player and manager in Italy. To achieve what he is about to is testament to his ability to work with his players, to manage his players and to develop a tactical system that suits the players he has to work with. If he could also add the FA Cup and land a domestic double (a feat only achieved by Carlo Ancelotti) it would be even better and what a way to start in your first season.
Get this man signed up as quickly as possible. Mark my words, he has the potential to become even more successful here than the Special One himself!
Let's not make comparisons with Mourinho (potential or otherwise) just yet as, love him or hate him (there seems to be no middle ground), we're talking about someone who has won everything in Portugal, England, Italy, Spain and Europe by the time he was 50.......and he's still going. He may have lost some of his charisma along the way (hardly surprising) but I'm not sure we'll see his like again.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Conte has done an excellent job and we should indeed do whatever we can to keep him. It's a bit of a worry that his family seem reluctant to join him here but I guess we'll just have to wait and see how things develop.
I'm still concerned about Emanalos role and not just because of his "indifferent" transfer dealings. Each time we've had problems with "player power" and their apparent ability to by-pass and undermine the manager (Scolari, AVB, Mourinho), Emanalo has been in the thick of it. He was brought in by Avram Grant, who himself did us no favours, and I'd really like to see the back of him. If we could replace Emanalo and have a board 100% behind Conte then we might have the stability we haven't seen since Mourinhos first stint and Emanalos arrival.
I don,t think you will get many CFC/fans not agreeing with what you say CD,although I hate comparing/people/sportsmen etc from past/present,JM there,s no doubt got us the Global/Rec that Roman wanted,he,s gone and now we have a guy who ''could''move us up the pecking order even more,if he,s allowed to do it without the ;interference; that has hampered other,s,Jose himself did,nt always get his own way.I will be honest and say I was not that ;aware; of the high regard Conte has in the game,he must be allowed to identify players he would like to bring in our Club [[ even Lukaku ]] Norman I seem to have read/somewhere that the family needed to stay at home for the benefit of the '' Kids'' continuing their education where they were ;settled;I could be wrong on that of course.anyhow we look at it it,s been a Great Season for CFC and one I did,nt see coming.the guy has it all.
ReplyDeleteNo one can take away Mourinho's successes but Conte has two clear advantages over him imo.
ReplyDeleteCredibility with those he coaches based on his own stellar career as a player.
Consistently portraying an enthusiastic and positive image of Chelsea Football Club.
We absolutely need to hold on to him.
