Chelsea travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United this afternoon and after beating Bournemouth 4-0 at home, Mauricio Pochettino claims Chelsea are now under pressure.
Let's be perfectly honest here to start with, not a single Chelsea fan thought that Tottenham would drop points yesterday lunchtime and we all knew that the gap would be reduced to just four points in the title race. That's no disrespect to Bournemouth at all but due to the fact that Tottenham are playing well at the moment.
The second prediction for the game would be that Pochettino would come out afterwards and make the claims that he has, which he keeps doing week in, week out and it's no surprise at all. After the game he said:
"Our job was to get the three points. Now if they fail we are there.
The pressure is on Chelsea to win at Old Trafford and that will be very tough for them.
It will be fantastic if [after that game] the gap is still four points.
Four points is still a lot. They are the favourites and they are on the top. We are fighting for ourselves and to be there and play for the top four.
For the second consecutive season we are there and it's fantastic for the club" - Source: Goal.com.
When he talks of the pressure I have a different opinion as I believe that the pressure is all on Tottenham and NOT Chelsea because they have little choice but to keep winning football matches.
Granted, Chelsea cannot afford to lose the game this afternoon, which I cannot see happening anyway with Jose making his excuses already, but for Tottenham any dropped points could prove costly.
Thibaut Courtois has been speaking this week about the so-called pressure on Chelsea and he has explained just how Chelsea thrive on it. He said:
"We are thriving.
What maybe happened with Palace is that we were too relaxed at certain points because we scored early.
I think for us, it is good for us to be under pressure but I think the pressure is more on the teams behind us, who need to win to close the gap.
We have the pressure to keep on winning and to keep the gap at seven points" - Source: The Mirror.
The world will be watching this afternoon as Chelsea take on Manchester United and what a body blow it would be to Pochettino and his players if Chelsea take a massive three points with a win!
