Antonio Conte locks horns with Jose Mourinho for the third time this season and is looking to make it three wins in a row to increase the gap back to seven points over Tottenham with a win.
Mauricio Pochettino is doing his best to try and ramp up the pressure on Chelsea after Tottenham won against Bournemouth yesterday as stated here, but this Chelsea team under Conte thrive on pressure, we are driven by the pressure to succeed and have a team that deserve to be at the top of the Premier League.
So what of the game this afternoon at Old Trafford with Manchester United looking to maintain their unbeaten run in the Premier League and to maintain their challenge for a top four finish?
I personally believe that Jose Mourinho is under immense pressure to qualify for the Champions League whether that is by finishing inside the top four or, by winning the Europa League with the latter being the most realistic chance they have.
The fans at Old Trafford are publically backing the manager but surely inside there has to be a level of frustration with the amount of money spent by the club and the fact that they are so far behind in the title race. The levels of expectation there will not sit and wait for something to happen for very long and the fans will demand a performance from their side this afternoon.
With question Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been a revelation this season. We all had our doubts about him and he has proved us wrong. I am looking to David Luiz and our defence to nullify the threat he has for a third time this season.
If you take Ibra out of the game United will struggle. To think that Chelsea signed N'Golo Kante for a THIRD of the fee United paid for Paul Pogba says it all really. Pogba has done nothing this season after the fanfare that proceeded his arrival. I would be gutted if he was playing for me.
United have defensive frailties that can be exposed time and time again. They do not defend width well enough, they do not track back well enough and they do not have a naturally defensive midfielder (such as Kante) within their ranks to do a good enough job.
Chelsea will expose United at will this afternoon and this is the most confident I have ever been ahead of the game since the Premier League started. We have far too many attacking options, we have a solid midfield, a solid defence and plenty of width.
I hope that Antonio Conte decides to play Nemanja Matic next to Kante to start with and not Cesc Fabregas in this one to ensure we remain solid throughout the spine of the side.
This is a game Chelsea need to win to extend the gap back to seven points. We need big performances from the likes of Pedro, Hazard and Diego Costa. If we are up and at our game from the start, this will be a massive afternoon for Chelsea!
Score prediction - 0-3 Chelsea.
Please don't predict any more comfortable wins for us CD. We just can't afford another performance like that.
ReplyDeleteAwful performance, CD please don't make more predictions like that 😂
ReplyDeleteJokes aside, no more mistakes from now on, and I really feel that given the calendar the pressure is on us
The most worrying thing is, Conte has no plan B when it goes wrong. Need to go back to the Leicester game when he played Willian, Pedro and Hazard as the false no 9.
ReplyDeleteI've been having exactly those thoughts myself, we need to get Willian into the side. Costa was scoring regulary until the January transfer window and since then nothing - coincidence? Willian's attitude and work rate is second to none and could make all the difference in the six games remaining.
