Diego Costa answered his critics in the stands on Tuesday night with two goals that secured a vital three points against Southampton. With a remarkable double still within reach this season, could he take centre stage in final flourish ahead of a move this summer?
It's clear that some Chelsea fans have become frustrated with Costa since the fallout from a proposed move to China last January. Some claim that he has not been as committed with his performances and his goal return has been poor after an impressive start to the season.
Looking at the stats it's hard to disagree with those than believe that he is destined to accept ridiculous money to move to China. Having scored 14 goals by the end of 2016, Costa had only added 3 goals to his tally over the next four months but that all changed with his two goals against Southampton and a frustrated gesture made to the Matthew Harding Lower as if to say "Who's moaning now?"
I have to say that I have a different opinion to those that have vented their frustrations with Costa of late and that's even with close friends of mine. In my opinion it's what he brings to the side that is important, it's his presence, his ability to dominate defenders and the fact that he is willing to create openings for his team mates that ensures his selection as our main striker week in, week out because we are simply not the same team without him at the moment.
Now I understand that against Manchester United he was poor but who wasn't on the day? Only N'Golo Kante could walk away from that game out of the whole side knowing that he put in a level of performance that was acceptable. However, we did see a frustrated Costa switch back to his old ways and get involved with Marcos Rojo which wasn't good to see but, it was just a single flash point compared to the impeccable attitude he has introduced to his game in the last two seasons.
The point I am trying to make on the side of those that defend Costa and appreciate what he brings to the team is to think of Didier Drogba and the influence he had on the side. Costa is of the same mould and has exactly the same impact on the opposition. No-one wants to willingly have to face Costa if they were given the choice, everyone knows what type of game you will have to face with him in the side as he gives us a psychological edge.
All I want to be focused on at this moment in time is not what is going to happen in the summer. I couldn't care less at the moment because Chelsea have the opportunity to win another double under Antonio Conte this season. We need Diego Costa to feel loved by the fans, to feel appreciated and to know he has the 100% backing of the supporters because we need him to be at his best and firing us to glory.
What better way to sign off in the summer than to leave us with a final flourish between now and the end of the season leading us to a double-double.
Think of how Antonio Conte would be able to build next season with the monies obtained from the sale of Costa, added to the money received from the sale of Oscar coupled with the new MEGA kit deal Chelsea have in place with Nike (Check out the Latest offers from Dealslands ) for next year, if we can secure at least the title this season, Chelsea would be a formidable force next year!
CD as much as I agree with your Costa post, I feel it,s a two/way/thing,,since the 'China' thing it was quite clear [[ to me at least ]] that Costa,s head was turned and in another place, the fact that CFC did,nt have another Striker of note, gave Conte no choice, yes I will support him for the rest/season,but hate any players who take the P,he got the hump big time, yes he,s good but I won,t be sorry when he goes.it,s clear he wants away and has been for some time.
ReplyDeleteI think the benefit coming from the china offer were too good to deny. With a scary like that,I think he will be swimming in cash.football betting blog.
