Victor Moses has signed a contract extension with Chelsea until 2021 and is a well earned reward for his outstanding breakthrough season under Antonio Conte.
Victor Moses has spent four years at Chelsea believe it or not having signed for the club back in 2012 from Wigan Athletic. The problem is that we have only got to see what he offers the team this season having spent three years farmed off out on loan at various clubs which had to be of a concern for the player with his Chelsea future at stake.
For any of you that watch Chelsea's pre-season campaign ahead of the start of every season, you have to be have been of the same opinion that for three summers in a row, Moses was outstanding and was our best player as he looked to make an impression to hopefully force his way into the manager plans for the year ahead. For whatever reason, that never happened and Moses would be told to play first team football somewhere else which always baffled me.
Being honest, after another good pre-season, it looked as though Moses would struggle to force his way into the first team but would have to settle as a squad player, used in cup competitions and it looked as though that was to be the case in the opening weeks of the season.
However, after Liverpool had beaten us at Stamford Bridge followed by the humbling defeat away to Arsenal, Victor Moses fortunes changed along with the tactical formation and he has not looked back from that moment until now. In fact, Moses has played every single Premier League game since 1st October which is staggering transformation to his fortunes here.
Deployed in Antonio Conte's 3-4-3 formation as a right wing-back, Moses has flourished in the new position he was more than happy to adapt to for the benefit of the team. Not only has he proven to be a threat going forward but he is developing the defensive side of his game and has played an important role in our change in fortunes to sit at the top of the Premier League ten points clear.
Speaking of his new deal Victor Moses said:
"I’m delighted to be here for another few years now and to sign a new deal. Now it’s time to concentrate on the team and keep working hard to make sure we win games and try to win the Premier League this season.
We’re having a great season, I’m enjoying my football and we have a good manager here that has given every single one of us confidence. I just want to keep on enjoying it and working hard for the team." - Source: Chelseafc.com.
After a season of struggle and a real concern we had over cover in the wide positions at the back, Victor Moses has taken the chance he was given to make the role his own, a role that is very different to anything he had played previously and has taken it with both hands.
Whatever happens to Chelsea between now and the end of the season, Moses as with many others surely has to be considered a success and hopefully, under Antonio Conte, he will continue to improve!
