With reports that Romelu Lukaku has indicated to Everton that he is unwilling to sign a new contract because of his desire to play in the Champions League, I am asking the Chelsea fans on here if we should re-sign him this summer.
Having notched his 20th goal of the season last weekend, there is little doubt that Romelu Lukaku has found his feet in the Premier League and is now classed as one of the top strikers. The 23-year-old has taken the chance offered to him back in 2014 to sign for Everton as their number one striker and has more than proved his worth.
According to press reports back in the summer, Chelsea had a £57m offer to re-sign Lukaku rejected by Everton who were holding out for an amount closer to £70m. As a result, Chelsea signed Michy Batshuayi for £33m instead but with reports that Batshuayi wants to leave in search of regular first team football this season and the future of Diego Costa still to be decided, reports indicate that Antonio Conte backed by the Chelsea board is prepared to offer the same figure this summer to entice Everton to accept now that the player himself has indicated a desire to leave. One additional report has indicated that Lukaku would sign a new contract as long as a minimum fee release clause of no more than £70m is added.
Lukaku has two years left on his current contract with Everton and you would have to imagine that the side from Merseyside knowing that there would be plenty of interest in his services, would want to hold out for as much as possible with reports that Juventus, Real Madrid, Manchester United and PSG are all interested.
I have spoken of my opinion of Lukaku previously on here and it has not changed. There is little doubt of his ability and of his eye for goals but I still believe he needs to improve in certain areas. He needs to do more in the air up against his direct opponents week in, week out. He doesn't win anywhere near enough headers for his height.
He also needs to improve his strength and ability to hold the ball up as although he does to a point, he could be so much more effective as Didier Drogba and Diego Costa prove to be for Chelsea. For someone that has the physical frame that he does, he needs to be bossing defenders and imposing his authority to influence games much more.
As Chelsea begin to plan for life in the Premier League and back in Europe next season it seems as though Romelu Lukaku has been identified as someone to either replace Diego Costa or to provide direct competition for a starting place and I want to know from as many Chelsea fans in the comments below if you think he is someone that we should sign this summer.
Should we re-sign Lukaku - Yes or No?
yes,but withing his financial rating or else we look somewhere
ReplyDeleteNo.
ReplyDeleteYes...
ReplyDeleteYes ....45 million plus Batshuayi
ReplyDeleteyes and allow costa go..He also need to improve when we have to put pressure on opp defense.
ReplyDeleteYes lukaku must come back to chelsea. Lukaku is the most consistent striker in EPL for now. He is better than costa. I see no reason why Chelsea is weighing the option. It is very bad to even ask if lukaku should come back. Well I am not surprised afterall Chelsea sold adjen robben and sold David luiz. So I always know Chelsea for selling the best players for no reason. This question should not be asked again. We can't wait to welcome lukaku for he is the missing and next drogba. Instead ask when lukaku is coming back to chelses
