Chelsea have stolen a march on Manchester United and have made their move to sign 22-year-old Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco this summer.
According to this report in The Mirror, Chelsea have agreed personal terms with the exciting midfielder who has just been called up to the French national team to replace Paul Pogba. Bakayoko played an integral part in the Monaco side that has beaten Manchester City in the Champions League.
It's thought that Antonio Conte wants Bakayoko to play alongside N'Golo Kante to form an intimidating partnership as he prepares for life beyond this season. With Nemanja Matic being recently linked with a move to Barcelona; to which he admitted to being flattered about, could he come in as a replacement for the big Serbian midfielder? However, there is an additional thought that Antonio Conte is looking to make a switch to a three-man midfielder with Matic playing as the holding midfielder with Bakayoko and Kante either side of him.
It's important that we treat rumours such as these as exactly that until there seems to be some form of substance. As Chelsea sit ten points clear of our rivals in the Premier League with the title in their sights we are going to be linked with a number of people between now and the end of the summer transfer window so we need to sit tight to wait and see what happens.
For example, before the Champions League games with Manchester City, hardly any of these players would have been linked with moves to the Premier League, it's only after two impressive performances that they are now. Bakayoko would not have been a name linked with us to that point.
It's clear that Chelsea need to replace Oscar in our midfield who left for China back in January. Is Tiemoue Bakayoko the answer? Or, is someone else the answer?
